Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries is a Government Ministry charged with creating an enabling environment in the Agricultural Sector. It is commonly known as Ministry of Agriculture and carries out its role by enhancing crop production, improving food and nutrition security, widening export base and improved incomes of the farmers.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: The incumbent will be responsible to the Commissioner, Animal Production for performing the following duties:-
- Planning, supervising and co-ordinating animal feeds and feeding development programmes for fences farms, ranches and communal grazing systems including pastoralism;
- In liaison with Ministry of Water and Environment, Lands, Housing and Urban Development, advising on development of water resources, grazing reserves and rangelands for livestock;
- Giving the District Production Officers support in planning, supervision and monitoring of animal nutrition, forage development and rangeland programs;
- Giving advice on animal feeds’ management and feeding;
- Regulating production, distribution of animal feeds and premixes;
- Handling environmental issues related to land utilization for animal production;
- Monitoring and evaluating staff performance;
- Ensuring staff training as may be required;
- Coordinating formulation and regulations relevant in animal nutrition, forage production and rangeland management;
- Any other duties as may be assigned from time to time
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Applicants should be Ugandans holding an Honours Bachelor’s Degree in Veterinary Medicine (BVM or Animal Production Technology and Management; or Science Degree in Agriculture (Animal Production) from a recognized University/Institution. Applicants must have a Master of Science Degree in any of the above specified fields from a recognized University/Institution. A post graduate qualification in management or administration will be an added advantage.
- Applicants should have a minimum of nine (9) years relevant working experience in the field of veterinary medicine or animal science with a bias in livestock production, three (3) of which should have been served at the level of Principal Veterinary Officer in Government.
