Job Summary: As part of the UNDP Karamoja Field Coordination Office team, the Officer plays a pivotal role in providing day-to-day support for project management in the region. They also establish connections with local stakeholders and communities while undertaking responsibilities related to project monitoring.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: Under the direct supervision of UNDP Karamoja Field Coordinator, the UN Volunteer – Liaison and Monitoring Officer will play a pivotal role in driving the successful implementation, monitoring, and coordination of development initiatives in Karamoja, leading to positive change and sustainable outcomes in the region. The key responsibilities include:
- Cultivating strong relationships with district Local Government authorities, cultural leaders, community organizations, and residents in Karamoja to foster collaboration and support for project activities.
- Ensuring that project activities align with the priorities, values, and needs of local communities while fostering a sense of ownership and accountability among stakeholders.
- Serving as the main point of contact for stakeholders in Karamoja, addressing inquiries, providing information, and resolving concerns promptly.
- Facilitating dialogue and collaboration between UNDP, local partners, and communities to ensure the effective implementation of development projects.
- Developing monitoring systems and tracking indicators to evaluate project progress and outcomes accurately.
- Monitoring project activities in accordance with set indicators and targets, conducting field visits to assess impact, identify areas for enhancement, and reporting on outcomes and challenges.
- Advocating for the inclusion of marginalized groups and vulnerable populations in project planning and decision-making processes, while championing gender equality and women’s empowerment.
- Identifying local resources, expertise, and knowledge to enhance project success and sustainability, contributing to work plans, reports, and project documentation.
- Organizing and participating in meetings, workshops, and events with stakeholders to discuss project progress, challenges, and improvement opportunities, fostering effective teamwork and coordination.
- Documenting and sharing best practices, lessons learned, and success stories with relevant stakeholders, upholding UNDP’s values of transparency, accountability, and diversity.
- Demonstrating cultural sensitivity and respect for local customs in all interactions, supporting the implementation of monitoring and evaluation mechanisms to track project performance effectively.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The applicant for the United Nations Volunteer job must hold a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Economics, Agricultural Economics, Development Studies, Agriculture, Business Administration, or related field. A master’s degree is an advantage.
- At least three years of experience n project management, monitoring, and evaluation experience as well as liaison roles at national or international levels.
- Proven ability to liaise with diverse stakeholders, including government agencies, NGOs, and international organizations.
- Familiarity with project cycle management, donor requirements, and monitoring frameworks.
- Fluency in English.
- Knowledge of the culture and languages spoken in Karamoja is an asset.

- Monitoring and Evaluation: The Officer should be proficient in monitoring and evaluation techniques to track progress, identify challenges, and recommend adjustments to project activities.
- Cultural Sensitivity: Given the diverse cultural context of Karamoja, the Officer should demonstrate cultural sensitivity and respect for local customs and traditions.
- Teamwork and Coordination: The Officer will be required to work closely with colleagues, partners, and communities in Karamoja, necessitating strong teamwork and coordination skills.
