Job Summary: Kijani Forestry, is seeking a diligent and experienced Procurement Manager to join our team in Gulu, Uganda. The successful candidate will oversee all procurement activities, ensuring adherence to company policies and driving cost-effective processes. This role involves managing the supply chain, negotiating contracts, and fostering strong relationships with vendors. Additionally, the Procurement Manager will be responsible for developing procurement strategies, advising staff and management, and maintaining efficient inventory management practices.
We’re looking for someone who is data and process-driven, loves solving problems and embraces a continuous improvement mindset. You also need to enjoy working and navigating uncertainty with both internal and external stakeholders
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Review company purchases and identify opportunities for cost reduction.
- Cultivate and manage relationships with vendors.
- Develop the procurement, manual policies and procedures
- Analyze pricing trends and market conditions to inform procurement decisions.
- Lead sourcing events and negotiate contracts with suppliers.
- Stay updated on industry trends to enhance procurement strategies.
- Support the development of new policies and procedures to drive savings.
- Monitor and evaluate savings against targets.
- Lead research efforts to validate savings projections and improve supplier negotiations.
- Assist in selecting appropriate suppliers, ensuring ethical purchasing standards.
- Maintain contracts with vendors and review inventory as required.
- Monitor delivery times and resolve order discrepancies.
- Collaborate with the finance department for timely invoice submission.
- Maintain organized procurement documentation and ensure accuracy.
- Identify and report potential risks in the procurement process.
- Collaborate with legal and compliance teams to address contractual issues.
- Perform any other duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The applicant must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Procurement, Supply Chain Management, or related field.
- At least four to five years of related work experience.
- Experience in a fast paced/startup environment or Company Is desired.
- Extensive experience in logistics and procurement.
- Strong negotiation and contract management skills.
- Leadership and team management experience.
Skills and Competencies:
- Procurement expertise.
- Vendor management and negotiation skills.
- Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret data and trends.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build collaborative relationships.
- Experience with process improvement and change management.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and attention to detail.
