About US:
Uganda is increasingly experiencing large effects of climate change which are contributing to internal climate migration. With more than 70% of its population engaging in crop agriculture or pastoralism, climate-related push and pull factors have encouraged rural-to-urban migration, especially among young people who are also seeking livelihood opportunities in urban centres. Makerere University in collaboration with the University of Southern Denmark (SDU) and Tufts University with funding from the Danish International Development Agency (DANIDA) is implementing the Cities-of-Youth project. The four-year project is aimed at exploring the extent of youth climate migration and its impacts in secondary cities in Uganda. The project would like to recruit a coordinator to support the day-to-day implementation of the project including technical and administrative functions.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: Specifically, the Project Coordinator will be responsible for the following:
- Support the development of study protocols and their amendment as necessary.
- Support the day-to-day implementation of the project including planning and preparation of research activities and supervision of field staff.
- Coordinating and scheduling travel, meetings and appointments for project staff and supporting engagement with partners.
- Organize and coordinate project meetings, workshops, and events etc.
- Mobilize the support of community leaders, healthcare workers and other stakeholders for the research project in the areas of implementation.
- Keep proper records of all information related to the project.
- Participate in the preparation and execution of dissemination activities including preparation of technical reports, manuscripts, publications, blogs, and PowerPoint presentations and engaging in dissemination activities.
- Track progress against targets and document the study process.
- Track the project budget including initiating requisitions and working with the finance team to ensure proper accountability of advanced funds.
- Ensure that all project logistics (materials supplies and equipment) are available at the right time and in the right quantities.
- Maintain close communication with implementation partners and collaborators, namely: SDU, Tufts University, Government ministries, District local governments, and the community.
- Perform any other project duties as may be assigned to you from time to time, by the PI.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Suitable applicants MUST possess a master’s degree in public health, environmental health, gender studies, or a related field.
- At least two years of experience coordinating research or health-related projects.
- In addition, the candidate the applicant should possess the following desirable qualities:
- Strong scientific writing, data analysis, and presentation skills.
- Exceptional problem-solving, planning, and organizational skills.
- Ability to organize, manage, prioritize, and follow through on multiple tasks.
- Strong work ethic and the ability to work well independently and as part of a team including with diverse sectors.
- Ability to travel to remote areas to supervise field activities that will usually require spending nights in the field.
- Excellent verbal and written English language skills.
