About US:
Uganda Electricity
Generation Company Limited (UEGCL) is a Public Limited Liability Company
incorporated in March 2001 under the Companies Act (Cap 110), the Laws of
Uganda and in conformity with the Electricity Act, 1999. UEGCL started
operation on 1st April 2001 and is wholly owned by the Government of the
Republic of Uganda, with the head office located in Kampala. The mandate of
UEGCL is to establish, acquire, maintain and operate electricity generation
facilities as well as promote Research and Development in the Electricity
generation sector while running the company on sound business principals.
Job Summary: The Shift Attendant will be responsible for
the safe and efficient operation of the power generation units, its auxiliaries
and equipment. Hence ensure safe working condition and environment, and
emergency response to plant fault and alarms.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform manual operations on a unit and
auxiliaries by starting, running, synchronizing, loads, offload and
shutdown the turbine generators in the power house on the instructions
from shift Engineer. - Follow up and if possible with guidance
from the Charge Engineer carry out basic maintenance and test running of
plant auxiliaries. - Execute work packages as allocated by
the Shift Charge Engineer - Co-operate and support the Shift Charge
Engineer and shift assistant to carry out their duties. - Monitors the plant operations
auxiliaries at all times and in case of the system disturbance, normalizes
the plant auxiliaries system through safe acceptable switching procedures. - Monitor, records and Report all alarms,
trips, faults, abnormalities as they are picked up by computers,
annunciators or gauges in the underground part of the station - Monitor and Record instrument
indications on local gauges in the underground part of the station at
determined intervals or as per special operating instructions - Responsible for the maintenance of
powerhouse log book. - Responsible for general housekeeping in
power house. - Carry out other assignments as
instructed by the Shift Charge Engineer and or assistant.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The ideal candidate must hold an
Ordinary National Technical Diploma in Electrical, Mechanical or
Electronic engineering or equivalent from a recognized Technical college,
Polytechnic or Institution of higher learning. - Certificates in other fields of
engineering such as mechatronics, automation etc. is an added advantage. - At least two years of working at a power
plant, heavy manufacturing Industry, processing plant or similar work
places are needed for this position. - Ability to work under stress
- Good computer skills in related software
application - Excellent communication skills
- Must be highly organized, systematic and
precise in work. - Candidates should ideally have good
knowledge of power plant processes and operations, with relevant
experience in Power Plants or related industries - Self-motivated, independent and positive
attitude. - Customer focused.
- Good interpersonal skills
