Job Summary:   The Gender and Inclusion coordinator will lead in conducting gender assessment and integrate the recommendations into organizational program life cycle including, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of all BRIDGE project interventions within the organization.

 

The incumbent will provide technical expertise and mainstream gender in all organization activities, including efforts to promote GBV prevention and response.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities: The Gender Coordinator will be responsible for the following;

  • Under the supervision of the Program Manager, the Gender Coordinator will oversee and guide gender mainstreaming in project implementation through a well-articulated gender strategy.
  • support the integration of gender and inclusion across Education programming within the organization with an aim of increasing girl enrolment and disability inclusiveness across the various projects.
  • Provide technical support and capacity development of staff on gender responsiveness and sensitivity in programming.
  • Provide analysis and advice to the program team on key gender issues and opportunities to support women’s engagement and participation in the public sphere.
  • Conduct regular reviews of project to ensure women and girls are effectively engaged and determine approaches to increase effectiveness of gender and inclusion approaches.
  • Support the Development and review of tools and strategies for the identification, enrolment, retention, and transition of learners with Special Education Needs and Disabilities, including supporting advising on the delivery of assistive devices to learners with disabilities.
  • Develop and deliver training programs and workshops to raise awareness and build capacity among staff, volunteers, and stakeholders on disability inclusion, reasonable accommodations, and best practices for interacting with individuals with disabilities.
  • Collaborate with internal departments, external partners, disability organizations, and community stakeholders to foster a culture of inclusion and implement initiatives that support the needs of individuals with disabilities.
  • Advocate for the rights and needs of individuals with disabilities both internally and externally, and participate in community outreach efforts to promote disability inclusion and raise awareness about relevant issues.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge and understanding of gender and inclusion issues and needs among young people and highlight actionable and relevant adaptations for project implementation team according to shifting needs of project participants.
  • Generate gender briefs, concepts and success stories; lead in documenting successes in programme implementation, specifically on gender mainstreaming in education for sharing with donors, and other key relevant partners.
  • Coordinate and build strategic alliances with other gender focused and protection focused partners or key actors either internally or externally to advocate for gender sensitive programming.
  • Act as the Organization’s safeguarding focal point to ensure adherence to safeguarding concerns that pertain to project participants and other relevant stakeholders.
  • Work closely with technical staff to design and implement activities that strengthen young women and men’s access to education finance training, and other resources
  • Support strengthened gender, age and disabilities disaggregated data and gender and diversity analysis on trends around children’s education as well as streamline the needs assessment, collection and analysis so that it can be more effective in meeting beneficiary needs.




Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • The applicant should have education qualifications in Gender or Social Science or Project Planning and management or equivalent.
  • At least five years’ experience in gender equality and equity or program management work.
  • Experience of working with gender transformative approaches, empowering young women, and girls, changing gender norms and engaging men and boys to promote gender equality.
  • Good understanding of child and young people’s rights programming and human rights-based approaches.
  • Proven experience working in education programming in development and/or humanitarian contexts.
  • Outstanding relationship management and communication skills.
  • Proven experience combining formal expertise on gender mainstreaming and gender equality with experience of applying these concretely to specific humanitarian program sectors, plans, policies and processes.
  • Ability to communicate ideas in a culturally sensitive manner and conducive to their practical application.
  • Comprehensive understanding of gender concepts, theories, and frameworks such as intersectionality, gender mainstreaming, and women’s empowerment.
  • Experience in advocacy and networking to promote gender equality, women’s rights and social justice issues in the community and national/international platforms.
