Job Summary: The Credit Advisor is part of the SNV Uganda Organisation and is appointed to be the leading expert on credit systems for the future INCLUDE project in the rural countryside being stationed in SNV regional office in Busoga. The Credit advisor will be leading in efforts to strengthen the financial sector relevance for the project. He/she will support SACCOs to improve their processes, build technical capacities of staff and incorporate other mechanisms that support the improved financial services delivery to smallholder farmers. He/she should have a strong background in Microfinance, Banking, Business Administration, agriculture economics and/or related expertise in the provision of business development services for financial institutions.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Promote the livestock Credit Facility in INCLUDE project areas of Southwest and Central Uganda
- Support in the Identification of (eligible) SACCO’s who are potentially interested to become a partner financial institution with the PCP fund manager
- Support the development of investment packages/loans that target smallholder dairy farmers.
- Support SACCOs and farmer organisations to develop an itemized list of cost prices of BOQ (Bill of Quantities) to be used during loan assessments.
- Provide technical advice on credit modalities, investment potential and analysis, possible repayment schedules, investment analysis.
- Train SHF on financial literacy
- Facilitate periodical dialogue between EKN, SNV and Fund Manager and Financial Institutions
- Collect, analyse and provide data necessary for all reporting requirements.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The applicant must hold a Master’s Degree or a Degree from a University in Economics, Banking, or Business Administration, preferably with specialisations in rural development, microfinance or agriculture economics.
- Eight (8) years plus of experience in the relevant field of agricultural finance or rural development programs/project support in a reputable organisation.
- Five (5) years of proven experience working in/with Tier IV financial Institutions in Uganda.
- Experience in performance evaluation of financial institutions, across the major aspects of outreach, financial sustainability, portfolio quality, and efficiency
- Experience in managing partner relations with NGOs, government departments, research and knowledge institutes, and private sector market actors.
- Ability/experience in guiding and coaching a team with the knowledge, skills, and financial product development.
- Ability to ride a motorcycle with a valid riding permit is recommendable.
