Job Summary: As a Quality Manager at Ibero Uganda, a leading coffee exporting company, you will play a vital role in ensuring the exceptional quality of our coffee products from sourcing to export. With Primary processing centers located upcountry, you will initiate processing protocols, oversee quality control measures, implement best practices, and drive continuous improvement initiatives to uphold our reputation for excellence in the global coffee market.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop, implement, and maintain quality management systems and procedures tailored to the unique requirements of coffee sourcing, grading, Colour sorting, and export processes.
- Establish and enforce quality control protocols at coffee buying and primary processing centers, ensuring adherence to Industry standards and customer specifications.
- Conduct regular audits and inspections of green coffee purchases, primary processing activities, and final coffee products to identify quality deviations and opportunities for enhancement.
- Collaborate Closely with coffee buyers, processing staff, and Warehouse teams to address quality-related issues promptly and implement corrective and preventative actions.
- Lead and mentor quality assurance personnel to foster a quality excellence and continuous improvement culture.
- Organize quality training for Quality staff and the company to promote a quality culture.
- Monitor and analyze key quality performance such as cupping scores, moisture levels, and defect counts to drive process improvements and optimize product quality.
- Oversee implementation of food safety and hygiene practices at coffee processing facilities to mitigate contamination risks and uphold coffee integrity.
- Liaise with external quality assurance agencies, regulatory authorities, and certification bodies like UCDA to ensure compliance with relevant standards and certifications.
- Act as the primary point of contact for customer quality inquiries and complaints, ensuring timely resolution and customer satisfaction.
- Capable of proficiently guiding and managing the team.
- Capable of contributing to commercial outcomes.
- Capable of ensuring quality controls consistently.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The applicant must hold a Bachelor’s degree in food science, Agriculture, Quality Management, or related field. Advanced degree or professional certification (e.g. Q-grader, ISO 22000:2018) is advantageous.
- Proven experience (At least 4 years) in quality management roles within the coffee industry, with a strong understanding of coffee processing techniques and quality parameters.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate across all levels of the organization.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with a keen eye for detail and a passion for driving continuous improvement.
- Willingness to travel occasionally to remote coffee buying centers and primary processing facilities.
- Knowledge of Coffee industry standards, certifications, and regulations (E.g. SCA, CQI)
- Basic understanding credit operations of a microfinance nature, rules and regulations, laws, granting loans, and credit risk management.
- Good problem-solving, negotiation, interpersonal, and convincing skills.
- Patience and understanding of emotions to deal with clients.
- Excellent organizing, recording, and filing skills.
- Strong dedication to accuracy and efficiency.
- Ability to use and communicate in Luganda and English.
