About US:

The Petroleum Authority of Uganda (PAU) is a statutory body established under Section 9 of the Petroleum (Exploration, Development and Production Act 2013, and in line with the National Oil and Gas Policy for Uganda which was approved in 2008. The PAU’s mandate is to monitor and regulate the exploration, development and production, together with the refining, gas conversion, transportation and storage of petroleum in Uganda. This includes ensuring that petroleum operations in Uganda are carried out in accordance with the relevant laws, regulations, guidelines, statutes and in line with international best practice for the petroleum industry.

 

Job Summary: The Data Management Officer – Geophysics will manage geophysical and related data as part of the PAU’s mandate of managing petroleum data

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the receipt of geophysical field data submitted by licensees, speculative survey companies, or PAU field teams and quality control for content, data format, and readability, among others, prior to archival/storage and cataloging.
  • Responsible for maintenance of corporate databases and data repositories with respect to geophysical data.
  • Responsible for transcription of seismic data from obsolete media to acceptable media types and load seismic and potential field data to data interpretation platforms.
  • Responsible for the maintenance of the seismic data store, seismic data in tapes, and the seismic transcription hardware and software. Ensures any repairs, regular clean-up and disinfection, and monitoring of the storage facility environmental conditions (humidity and temperature) to preserve the stored data and equipment.
  • Responsible for following up on and managing data from the assigned Contract Areas.
  • Participates in the development and maintenance of in-house software and web applications for data management.
  • Participate in the data dissemination process to stakeholders by ensuring timely response to data requests, quality control, speedy packaging, and pricing of the data as applicable.
  • Participate in the review and development of relevant policies, legislation, standards, regulations, and guidelines pertaining to the management of petroleum data.
  • Provides first level support, advice & guidance on Petro-technical Application usage and maintenance. This involves creation and management of user profiles, Access controls, Generation of user logs, Monitoring of License usage, Disk space management, Restoration of lost Data folders, etc.





Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • The applicant must hold an Honors Bachelor’s Degree in Petroleum Geoscience, Petroleum Engineering, Engineering, physical sciences, from an internationally recognized institution
  • At least three (3) years of relevant work experience
  • Innovative and with proven high level of integrity
  • Ability to work independently and in a team
  • Ability to interpret and analyze process diagrams.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in using relevant process simulation software.
  • Excellent analytical/critical thinking skills
  • Proven record of outstanding performance
