Job Summary: The Research Officer – Food Biochemist will study food products and processes for enhanced productivity.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assesses the hazards associated with production, handling, processing, storage, marketing and consumption of coffee-based food products.
- Participate in assessing the packaging options for processed coffee-based foods on the Ugandan market
- Investigate the genetic, physiological, chemical, physical and structural composition of coffee plant cells and tissues
- Investigate the control of metabolism, growth and development of coffee plants.
- Identify cellular and developmental events that ensure continuity of coffee plant.
- Develop technologies aimed at ensuring product integrity and safety of processed and unprocessed coffee-based foods
- Develop commercial coffee-based food products using innovative techniques
- Develop technologies aimed at harnessing low-value coffee-based agricultural produce and by-products for production of high value food products using up-market techniques
- Develop appropriate packaging material for products derived from food biotechnology
- Develop systems and models for management of waste derived from coffee-based food processing establishments/plants/industries
- Perform any other duties assigned to you by the director and the designated supervisor
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The applicants for the National Agricultural Research Organization job should hold a Masters and bachelor’s degree in any of the following fields; Food science/technology, Biochemistry, Nutrition, Plant physiology, Microbiology or Chemistry
- Should have a minimum of three years demonstrated working experience in a related field and proven record of publication in referred journals.
- Possession of a PhD is an added advantage
- Age Limit: Not more than 55 years
