About US:

The Danish Refugee
Council (DRC) is a private, independent, humanitarian organization working on
all aspects of the refugee cause in more than 36 countries throughout the
world. The aim of DRC is to protect refugees and internally displaced persons
(IDPs) against persecution and to promote durable solutions to the problems of
forced migration, on the basis of humanitarian principles and human rights. DRC
works in accordance with the UN Conventions on Refugees and the Code of Conduct
for the ICRC and NGOs in Disaster Relief.

Job Summary:  The Driver will transport passengers safely /
efficiently and adhere to the schedule for program staff to ensure staff
reaches their work on time, and ensure that all office vehicles are in good
working condition and meet the security and safety requirements to be ready for
use at all times.

Key Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • The safe and duly authorized use of the vehicle assigned to him.
  • The correct use of the vehicle and safety of its passengers/goods.
  • Knowing in detail, and abiding by, all local laws pertaining to
    driving and road use, and all DRC driving rules and regulations (no
    passenger or superior may authorize or order violations of the traffic
    law).
  • Adhering to all procedures and guidelines laid out in the fleet
    management operations hand book, including but not limited to the
    cleanliness, routine inspection, fault-reporting, maintenance needs of the
    vehicle assigned to him, and any incidents/accidents that befall that
    vehicle.
  • Maintain accurate, legible, up-to-date and complete trip records in
    the log book of the vehicle he drives immediately after completing the
    journey.
  • Journey preparation of the vehicle assigned to them, including:
    general cleanliness and appearance; checks on spare tyre(s) and other
    equipment such as first aid kit, recovery kit, etc; communications checks;
    fuel/oil/water levels and tyre pressure checks; and safe and secure
    loading.
  • Comply with DRC movement matrix policy in relation to kiss movements
    and observe the respective times.
  • Any other duties that may be assigned from time to time.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 

  • The ideal candidate for the Danish Refugee Council (DRC) Driver job
    placement must hold a Uganda Certificate of Education or a training in
    motor vehicle mechanics
  • Training in defensive driving
  • Five years’ experience in driving with a reputable organization.
  • High integrity, pro-active, stable, robust character and a good
    team-player
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Good knowledge of vehicle maintenance and operating systems.
  • Ability to work under pressure and for long hours.
  • Driving license of class ‘B’ and any other additional class an added
    advantage.
  • Good Communication skills in English required.
  • Fluency in other local languages including Kiswahili is an
    advantage.
