Dynamic Agro-Pastoralist Development Organization (DADO) is a local, non-governmental, non-political, non-profit making organization established on 6th July 1996 by the Agro-pastoralist communities of North Karamoja – Uganda. DADOO’s Mission is to contribute to improved Food and Nutritional Security; Animal Health; Natural Resources Rights for Poverty and Conflicts Reduction through Building Community Resilience and Capabilities to Secure better Lives and Sustainable Livelihoods. To achieve her Mission, DADO focuses on supporting Agro-pastoralists communities’ Development initiatives through Building Resilience, Peace and Reconciliation, Animal Health, SMART Agricultural [Crop] Practices, WASH, Natural Resource Management, Protection and Promotion of Pastoralists’ and indigenous Rights and Capacities enhancements.

 

About Project:

Securing Agro-Pastoralists Land Tenure Rights [SEPALATER] in Karamoja – Uganda, is a two-year [2024/25] Project that is going to be implemented in Kaabong District. The project is funded by the RRG – HPF and is designed to support Agro-Pastoralists secure their Land Tenure Rights for Sustainable Nature Solutions, Resource Use and Livelihoods Security in Karamoja-Uganda. The project target locations include Loyoro, Lobongia, Sidok, and Lodiko sub counties and areas of interests at regional and National level.

 

Job Summary:   Within the context of supporting land tenure systems and livelihoods around the project sub counties in Kaabong, Karamoja and Uganda, the Project coordinator provides technical advice on policy, analytical and implementation expertise on rural land tenure security, access to land, women and youth land rights, land rights formalization, land markets, land administration, land management, resolution of land disputes, and related fields, including food security, agricultural productivity, corporate services, Natural resource restoration, project proposal writing and DADO partnerships. The project coordinator conducts analyses, understanding and support field officers and communities (both from the office desk and in the field day activities monitoring), and prepares and presents power point analytical summaries and reviews, research and briefing papers, advisory memos, training modules, presentations, and other products for the DADO projects in general.

 

The Project Coordinator Duties and Responsibilities will be; Duties

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Executive Director [ED] in Development of project management documents [Budgets, Project schedules, scopes statements and plans]
  • Perform research, analysis, and synthesis of topics and issues related to DADO land focus work in regions as assigned.
  • Ensure Indigenous peoples and local communities human rights-based approaches are respected while in community engagement. IFPC documentation is taken into consideration during activity implementation.
  • Undertake and occasionally supervise fieldwork (rapid rural appraisal, key informant interviews, public meetings, workshops, surveys) to gather information about current land tenure conditions and the prospects for reform in the communities, regional and national level.
  • Orally present policy recommendations to government officials and other partners, answer questions and defend recommendations.
  • In Coordination, collaboration with relevant Governments departments, stakeholders, other Development partners, support, create/strengthen communication platforms on Land Tenure Rights.
  • Meeting with Project beneficiaries/participants to assess their needs and define project requirements, acceptance project criteria and timelines.
  • Supervision of the Project Field Officer and follow up of the project activities implementation by the Project Field Officer in the communities.
  • Support and facilitate in strengthening of community rangelands Institutions, Communal Land Associations, Community Development Trust Leaders and Facilitate Agro-Pastoralist to Secure Land Rights.
  • To coordinate the allocation of project resources to ensure the project team has what is needed at the right time.
  • Assign tasks to team members and help them understand what is expected from them in terms of project milestones and deliverables.
  • Help the Executive Director monitor project progress and team members’ performance and provide updates to project stakeholders.
  • Coordinate all the project activities and foster cross-team collaboration to help project team members complete project tasks and produce deliverables.
  • The liaison between the Director and project beneficiaries/participants throughout the project cycle.
  • Execute project Management Administrative and bookkeeping tasks [invoices, purchase orders, inventory reports and other financial documents]
  • Resource mobilization strategies: Develop new Project Proposal, expand opportunities for new partnership and collaboration with donors on land rights and livelihoods.
  • On quarterly basis and in liaison with the Finance Manager, monitor, review and carry on the project Budget analysis.
  • Report all project activities progress challenges and propose workable solutions challenges [Monthly, Quarterly, Annually, and as per the donor requirements].
  • Represent DADO at Coordination meetings and technical trainings in and out of District.




Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelors in the fields of; Natural Resource Management, Environment, Sociology, Rural and Development Studies, Human Rights and other relevant fields.
  • At least four years of experience in the same field.
  • Knowledge and experience in NGOs work, and or working with a government agency/ or District authorities on land and natural resources.
  • Knowledge of use of Microsoft packages (Word, Excel, Power point)
  • Knowledge in the use of computers or smart phones, and other data collections tools
  • Good attention to details and ability to complete tasks in a timely manner.
  • Good teamwork and interpersonal skills.
  • Decent project Proposal Development skills
  • Good organizational skills and ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Strong written and verbal communication skills with ability to write sensible and relevant reports.
  • Ability to work in a multicultural diverse environment and under pressure.
  • Demonstrated ability to adhere to strict confidentiality involving internal/ external information.
  • Ability to plan, manage and follow up assignments and communicate at all levels of the organization in a timely and professional manner.
  • Ability to ride a motorcycle including having a riding permit;
  • English and Ngakaramojong is an added advantage.
  • Good analytical skills with ability to make independent judgment and decisions Ethical conduct in accordance with recognized professional and organizational codes of ethics
  • Good negotiation, communication, and relationship management skills.
