About US:
Uganda Christian University (UCU) is an authentic Christian institution established by the Church of Uganda in 1997 in response to a call for quality university education with a Christian perspective. Uganda Christian University replaced the historic Bishop Tucker Theological College which trained clergy and educators during its 84-year history from 1913-1997. The local chief, Hamu Mukasa, granted land for the college to operate in Mukono.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Support the development, implementation and review of HR initiatives, policies, procedures and systems;
- Manage the recruitment process by preparing job descriptions, posting advertisements, and managing the hiring process from the start to finish right from Identifying HR gaps to on boarding;
- Provide support in the preparation of the monthly payroll, maintaining payroll related documents and ensuring payroll information is properly documented and filed.;
- Assist in performance management processes, including timely probation and annual appraisal processes, contract renewals, etc;
- Develop and implement University wide staff training and development programs.
- Preparation of HR related statistics and periodic reports to Management and Boards;
- Manage the Academic Staff Promotions process from start to finish;
- Supervise Junior staff in the Directorate of Human Resource and Administration;
- Perform any other official duties as may be assigned by the Supervisor from time to time.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Must have a Master’s degree in Human Resource Management or a related field.
- Must have a Bachelor’s Degree in a related field. A Bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Management will be an added advantage.
- At least five years of working experience in HR practice, two (2) of which should have been at Officer level in a reputable Organisation.
- Professional certification in HR and membership to HRMAU is desirable and will be an added advantage
- Knowledge and expertise of executing HR functions is desirable.
- An in-depth understanding of labour laws of Uganda and disciplinary procedures.
- Superb computer literacy with capability in email, MS Office and related HR software.
- Should be highly organized with a high level of meticulous attention to detail as enormous information is within their jurisdiction.
- Should have a high level of Confidentiality as sensitive information is within their jurisdiction.
- A mature, committed and practicing Christian.

- Outstanding planning, organizational and time management abilities.
- Self-motivated, proactive, highly organized self-starter with grit, determination and passion for hard work.
- Should have excellent communication skills such as good listening, speaking, and writing skills.
- Strong decision-making, problem-solving and high analytical skills.
- Ability to work comfortably under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
- Has a personal commitment to organizational excellence; displays honesty, integrity, reliability and a strong sense of ethics in all decision and actions.
