Makerere University Walter Reed Project (MUWRP) is a non-profit biomedical research Organization, whose mission is to mitigate disease threats through quality research, healthcare and disease surveillance. MUWRP was established in 2002 by a Memorandum of Agreement between The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine, Inc. (HJF) and Makerere University (Mak) to undertake medical research to test HIV vaccines. Over the years, MUWRP’s portfolio has progressively expanded to include vaccine research for Ebola and Marburg viruses, surveillance of influenza and influenza- like viruses and other emerging infections in humans and animals; also epidemiological, basic and implementation research in HIV treatment, care and prevention programs in the Districts of Kayunga, Mukono, Buvuma and Buikwe.
Job Summary: The Finance Associate will provide overall support to the Finance section in the areas of accountancy. This position requires keen attention to detail and high levels of confidentiality and integrity.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Maintain and monitor the program’s petty cash.
- Perform banking duties as a third-party agent, including deposits, withdrawals, and related tasks.
- Record approved accounts payable transactions in accounting software (Dynamics BC 365) and upload payments to the online banking
- Prepare bank reconciliations.
- Assist with processing project payroll and employee expense claims.
- Handle monthly statutory deductions (PAYE, NSSF, and WHT).
- Accurately monitor and record accounts.
- Contribute to the preparation of monthly management/financial accounts.
- Oversee accountability for works advances according to accounting manual procedures.
- Invoice and receipt Laboratory and other project external revenues, update the lab income schedule monthly, and follow up on overdue
- Manage and follow up on cash advances as per accounting manual procedures.
- Conduct field visits to provide financial technical assistance to program partners and ensure proper resource utilization.
- Participate in the preparation of audit files for audit processes.
- Perform any other reasonable duties assigned by the supervisor and/or Head of Department.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The applicant must hold a Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field
- Two years of work experience
- Knowledge in Accounting Software Dynamics BC200
- Knowledge of Uganda taxation, NSSF, employee benefits laws
- Attention to details and high level of integrity.
- Organized and self-driven
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
