The Uganda Hotel Owners’ Association (UHOA) is a trade and lobbying organisation that includes almost all of the nation’s hotels, lodges and camps among its members. UHOA has a membership of 450 members comprising hotels, lodges, Motels, B&Bs, Inns and camps among its members. UHOA is the biggest Hotel trade association in Uganda, with members hailing from different regions of Uganda. UHOA members range from five start hotels to ungraded facilities such as homes and camps.
Job Summary: The Guest House Manager will ensure the smooth running of the Guesthouse operations including supporting the team to provide exceptional guest service, maximizing occupancy, revenue, building and safeguarding the reputation of the facility.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Oversee the smooth running of the Guest House, Restaurant and Bar as per standards of procedure. Promote and market the business including developing ways to attract new customers.
- Prepare and monitor the budgets and expenses of the Guest house.
- Develop work schedules for all staff in conjunction with supervisor’s/team leaders.
- Collaborate with the Directors and the Restaurant/Bar on menu planning and pricing
- Enforce compliance with company policies specifically health and safety as well as licensing laws (KCCA health inspection)
- Hire, train & develop the working team and direct supervisees.
- Supervise and monitor the activities of all departments to ensure the team is aware of their responsibilities and are performing duties to a consistently high standard.
- Manage and monitor stock levels within all departments in line with departmental budgets
- Management of cash handling within company policy.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients and visitors for continuity of business. Schedule and conduct all operational briefings, prepare and present reports,
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The applicant must hold a Degree/Diploma in Hospitality and Hotel Management.
- Minimum of Seven years of experience with 3 years as a hotel/guest house manager.
- Knowledge of the hospitality industry.
- Excellent communication skills (both oral and written) with good interpersonal skills.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Strong multitasking skills.
- Strong work ethic, with the ability to work well both independently and within the context of a larger team-oriented environment.
- Excellent MS Office skills.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Great decision making and problems solving skill
- Good leadership skills.
- Ability to motivate staff.
- Fluency in English plus knowledge of another language.
