Job Summary: The Chief Operating Officer (COO) will be
responsible for ensuring that the company delivers on its operational plans,
sustains growth and fulfils its overall mission. The COO will also give overall
leadership to all internal functions which include: Operational, Financial and
Administrative in close partnership with the CEO and other Heads of Functions.
Key Duties and
Responsibilities:
·
Develop, in collaboration with the CEO and the
Chief Finance Officer (CFO) an annual operating plan that supports the
businesses long term operational strategy;
·
Establish policies that promote company culture
and vision;
·
Foster a corporate culture that promotes ethical
practices for the business and oversee compliance with those practices;
·
Develop programs along with Human Capital to
create a culture aligned with the core values;
·
Assist the CEO in developing the long term
business strategies of the business;
·
Keep the CEO fully informed in a timely and
candid manner of the conduct of the day to day operations of the business
towards the achievement of its established goals and or all material deviations
from the goals and or objectives and policies established by the Board;
·
Resolve and communicate all operational and
project development matters;
·
Be available to brief the CEO on operational
matters for review in advance of the Board as requested by the Board, attend
meetings of the Board and its committees and present the information necessary
or relevant to the board or such committee for discharging its duties;
·
Assess and manage the principal risks of the
business within operations (proposals, projects and staffing);
·
Develop and implement an effective succession
plan in place for the COO position and other key positions in the function;
·
Assist in establishing an appropriate
organizations structure;
·
Evaluate the performance of senior staff in the
operations function;
·
Interact and engage with local authorities
across markets on relevant issues;
·
Ensure required processes are implemented to
comply with relevant legislation;
·
Ensure the company delivers on its annual plans,
sustains growth and fulfils its overall mission by working in close partnership
with the CEO to provide overall leadership; and
·
Ensure development of health and safety
practices for the business and oversee compliance with those practices.
Qualifications,
Skills and Experience:
·
A Master degree in Business Management or
Financial Management or any related courses;
·
A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or any
related courses;
·
Ten (10) years progressive experience a similar
role in manufacturing or distribution of Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) of
which five (5) years at top management level;
·
A solid understanding of key management processes
including strategic planning financial management, information systems, human
resources, procurement and corporate strategy;
·
Demonstrable experience with implementing
technical processes in manufacturing and FMCG industries;
·
Demonstrable entrepreneurial mind-set, a service
orientation and an ability to act creatively;
·
A good understanding of the legal framework in
Uganda and the East African region;
·
Ability to develop and establish relationships
within the organization and with stakeholders;
·
Demonstrated leadership skills and experience
with building and managing multi-disciplinary and culturally diverse teams;
·
Excellent interpersonal skills; and
·
Excellent communication skills.
