Job Summary:  The Credit Manager Retail will provide an independent assessment of Retail credit applications; approve applications within delegated authority, make recommendations to the Management Credit Committee on applications above delegated authority. The jobholder also supports the Head of Credit in management of the Credit function of the Bank through ensuring sound risk asset quality and a prudent credit culture throughout the Retail lending units, while ensuring that the credit process is responsive to customer needs and credit losses/collection costs are minimised.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

• Review and approve Retail credit applications within delegated authority and make recommendations to Head of Credit and/or MCC for applications above delegated authority.
• Positively contribute to a sound risk asset quality and a prudent credit culture of the Retail Lending portfolio, while ensuring the credit process is responsive to customer needs and credit losses and collection costs are minimized.
• Ensure the Bank’s compliance with regulatory requirements in the areas of credit, and with internal policies, procedures and underwriting standards.
• Regularly review the Bank’s Retail credit portfolio to recommend /implement relevant strategic interventions and effective dimensions on portfolio risk management, especially in line with Bank’s growth and risk management strategy.
• Attend and contribute to management meetings on discussions on the Bank’s credit portfolio.
• Ensure that Retail credit delivery is effective, responsive and customer satisfaction measures are high.
• Support regular review of the Bank’s Credit policies, procedures and processes, and recommend /implement changes where appropriate.
• Contribute to the bank’s profitability by ensuring optimum risk-reward profile of risk asset proposals.
• Support credit training efforts across the bank.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

• The applicant must hold a bachelor’s degree in business related subject or its equivalent.
• Professional banking, and accounting qualification will give an added advantage
• At least five years of banking experience with not less than 3 years in a credit approval position
• Two years of leadership experience
• Demonstrate a proven ability to analyze credit proposals
• Understanding of market & credit risk management trends in the financial services industry
• Ability to understand and analyze financial & cash-flow statements and make useful deductions for decision-making
• Good coordination skills, strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Strong organizational and people management skills
