Job Summary: Under the guidance of the Project Coordinator, The WaSH Engineer is responsible for the provision of technical support to the project team in Water Supply and Hygiene and sanitation interventions, support training activities for the project implementation team on WASH assessments and providing quality assurance during project implementation, supervision of WaSH Technicians and Project Assistants- Hygiene and Sanitation staff, record learning and coming up with adaptable intervention/ approaches to support effective implementation of the project goals and objectives in relation to the LWF Uganda standards and principles following established LWF Uganda procedures and guidelines
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- The WaSH Engineer is responsible for the provision of technical support to the project team in Water Supply and Hygiene and sanitation interventions by providing guidance throughout the implementation of the WaSH intervention with acceptable approaches.
- In consultation with local authorities and beneficiaries identify sites and target households for water source macro-water catchments RO filtration unit pipe networks and other project interventions in target locations.
- Prepare design package of gravity fed/Solar water network reservoirs macro water catchments & water wells as well as a construction plan for every single infrastructure.
- Provide detailed technical specifications in BOQs and ToRs for contractors.
- Supervise construction supervisors and daily laborers building their capacity and providing technical support to strengthen their construction skills.
- Ensure quality work in the construction/rehabilitation of water supply and groundwater recharge infrastructure.
- Ensure the sustainability aspect of infrastructure development in the field
- Maintain proper documentation of work progress as well as labour timesheets.
- Liaise with the project coordinator & other relevant technical staff on the progression of construction/rehabilitation works.
- Timely reporting to the project coordinator on project updates gaps obstacles and challenges of construction work on a daily, weekly, monthly & quarterly basis.
- Ensure the establishment water management committee (WMC) per each village for project sustainability and proper operation & maintenance of infrastructure.
- Ensure that WMC gets enough on-site practical training during the construction/rehabilitation phases of work in order to get the technical orientation of all constructed parts.
- Support the Construction Supervisor to conduct one-day technical training on slight technical repairing work developing the budget plan and fee collection and proper O&M of water infrastructure.
- Keenly monitor/supervise construction work in the field and ensure they meet the project objectives in terms of quality of work and within the agreed timelines.
- Work with M&E to regularly track and report on progress towards AHEAD water sanitation and hygiene targets.
- Take all the necessary measures in order to maintain positive working relationships and a good environment upholding the rule of safety first in order to prevent accidents.
- Ensure that the water sanitation and hygiene program is fully and timely implemented according to community needs and standards in the project-targeted areas.
- Mobilizing communities (including religious leaders) toward program objectives & post ending sustainability.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The applicant must hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Water Engineering or Civil Engineering
- Post-graduate studies in water management (Desirable)
- Four years of experience in a similar role
- Experience in GIS software and its application in WaSH activities
- Strong knowledge of the structural and hydraulic design of small and medium-scale WATSAN structures
- Knowledge and experience in designing gravity-fed or solar-fed water supply network macro water catchments and irrigation structures.
- Excellent understanding of drawing details.
- Willingness to travel throughout the project area as required.
- Ability to engage and mobilize different community groups and leaders is a necessity.
- Ability to supervise different construction work simultaneously.
- Knowledge of Water CAD/Water GEMs
