Job Summary: The Business Development Officer will be responsible for acquiring, servicing and retaining clients, as well as administering bid documents, preparing and follow ups on tenders. The successful candidate will be able to work collaboratively with a range of stakeholders, and will have a proven track record of success in business development and client management.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Acquisition of new clients by actively listening to their requirements and presenting the company’s products and services in a tailored and effective manner.
- Prepare and submit professional bid documents, and actively follow up on submitted tenders with prospective clients.
- Maintain and develop relationships with existing customers through regular in-person meetings, phone calls, and emails.
- Represent the company at trade exhibitions, events, and demonstrations with the aim of generating new leads and converting those leads into new customers.
- Participate in client relationships and portfolio profitability by setting quarterly targets for increased revenue from existing clients.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual business development reports, including detailed analyses of sales trends and future projections
- Participate in company promotional activities, including events, product launches, and marketing campaigns, with the aim of increasing brand awareness and achieving increase in sales revenue during promotional periods.
- Participate in the preparation and timely publication of the company’s marketing materials, including brochures, newsletters, and social media posts, with the aim of adherence to publication timelines.
- Perform any other duties as assigned by management in line with business needs, ensuring that all tasks are completed with a high degree of accuracy and within the agreed timelines.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The applicant must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Marketing or related field.
- A Diploma in Insurance holder or a finalist.
- At least five years of experience in the insurance industry.
- Strong underwriting skills and knowledge of insurance products and services.
- Proven sales experience with a track record of meeting or exceeding sales targets.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong negotiation and presentation skills.
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
- Confident with in-depth knowledge and networks in Uganda
- Ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines
- Must have integrity and high sense of ethical responsibility.
- Demonstrate an understanding of key laws and rules guiding the insurance market
- Attention to details and good tender management skills.
