About US:
The Cross-Cultural Foundation of Uganda (CCFU) is a
Uganda-registered non-governmental organisation. CCFU was established in 2005
to “Promote the recognition of culture as vital for human development that
responds to our national identity and diversity”.CCFU’s mission is premised on
the conviction that positive aspects of culture can be harnessed to cause sustainable
development and transformation. Every five years the Foundations develops a
strategic plan that reflects its vision and mission, and guides its operations.
Currently, the Foundation has 3 main programme areas,
namely, Promoting a ‘Culture in Development’ Approach; Cultural Rights,
Governance and Managing Diversity, and Cultural Heritage Development and
Preservation. The programmes target indigenous and marginalised
communities,young people, women, cultural and academic institutions, community
museums, among others. Given their central role as custodians of cultural
heritage the cultural leaders and other cultural resources form an important
component of our programmes and the delivery of the desired outcomes.
Currently, the Foundation is undergoing a leadership
transition, and in a bid to better manage the organisation’s diverse
programmes, the Foundation has split the directorship into two main functions.
One function focuses on programmes, human resource and financial management,
while the other function focuses on strategic thinking, advocacy and
fundraising. CCFU is therefore looking for a self-motivated, dynamic
and foresighted individual to take up the position of Director for Strategic
Thinking, Advocacy and Fundraising. The Director will work in close
collaboration with the Director for Programmes, Human Resource and Financial
Management. The co-directors will be supported by a Management Committee and
will report to the Board of Trustees. Below is a detailed outline of the key
relationships, purpose and key result areas for this position
Key Relationships:
· Line management
and accountability: CCFU Board of Trustees,
· Mutually
accountable to Director Programmes, Programme advisor, outgoing Executive
Director
· Accountability
lines: Donors, partners, Government line ministries
· Technical
support: Programme lead persons, Finance and Communications Unit,CCFU partners
and other CSOs, volunteers, interns, National Trust Heritage Programme Manager
Job Summary: The incumbent will;
·
Provide leadership to the organisation
especially in strategy development and policy development and implementation
·
Lead the development and implementation of
CCFU’s advocacy strategy and policy
·
Lead the development and direct the
implementation of CCFU’s fundraising strategies
·
Manage CCFU’s external relations with donors and
partners
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Organisation
strategy, vision and mission development
·
Lead strategic development processes of CCFU
·
Lead the development of CCFU’s new Strategic
Plan 2020 – 2025
·
Keep abreast with developments in the fields
relevant to CCFU’s activities and interests and analyse their impact on the
organisation’s mission and relevance
Management
·
Co-manage the organisation with the Director
Programmes and support in all decision making at the management committee of
the organisation
·
Provide support to the Director Programmes on
the development of annual plans and reports (both financial and programmes) for
the organisation.
·
Provide support to the Director Programmes on
ensuring efficient deployment and use of CCFU’s resources both finance and
human
·
Supervise and provide technical guidance to the
communications team.
·
Oversee the implementation of the advocacy and
fundraising activities of the organisation.
Fundraising
·
Lead the development and implementation of
CCFU’s fundraising strategy.
·
Manage CCFU’s partner relations, project
proposals writing and presentation to national and international potential
funders.
·
Participate in meetings with funders and other
potential funders and supporters
·
Develop and manage a donor and potential
funders’ database
·
Support skills building for staff in developing
concepts for fundraising
Advocacy
·
Lead the development and implementation of
CCFU’s advocacy strategy and activities.
·
Lead the Foundation’s advocacy campaigns for the
Ministry of Culture, preservation of historical buildings and sites, national
coalition on the rights of indigenous minority groups and any other advocacy
areas that the foundation shall agree to adopt in line with the Mission and
Vision
·
Develop, review and maintain an advocacy risk
mitigation plan
·
Identify and collaborate with other stakeholders
to implement CCFU’s advocacy plans
·
Represent CCFU at national and international
fora that have a bearing on CCFU’s strategy, fundraising and advocacy agenda.
·
Report on advocacy activities periodically as
required by the institution.
Programme and
institutional support
·
Provide technical support to the organisation’s
advocacy, fundraising, research and documentation.
·
Participate in CCFU’s programme planning and
reporting meetings as well as staff meetings and retreats.
·
Participate in the staff M&E sessions and
take lead in compiling information on advocacy, institutional development and
fundraising.
·
Provide Support to the Board Members that
provide specialised support to the institutions in the areas of advocacy,
fundraising and strategic planning.
Accountability
·
Act as Secretary to the Board of Trustees. This
role shall be done together with the Director Programmes.
·
Report to the Board of Trustees as and when
required on the duties allocated under this job description
·
Report to partners, clients and other
stakeholders (national and international) on any matters in-line with the duties
and responsibilities of this position
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
·
The applicant must hold a background in
organisational management and heritage/social studies/human rights (Master’s
level)
·
Six years of relevant professional experience
·
CCFU is looking for a leader who is visionary,
dynamic and experienced in organisational management.
