Job Summary: The Project Officer – Gender and Social Inclusion will provide technical direction, oversight, and leadership to create and maximize opportunities to engage in social inclusion and gender equity through direct project activities. The candidate will support and lead the development and maintenance of a Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment (GEWE) and social inclusion action plan to recognize the structural disparities and social norms that limit vulnerable populations’ participation.

 

GSI will ensure integration of gender and social inclusion, community-led safeguarding and support institutional development and envisioning of groups. Capacity building of the project team on gender and social inclusion mainstreaming.

 

Gender and Social Inclusion Officer will manage and support the delivery of gender technical aspects of the intervention at a project level, through both direct delivery and partnerships with external organisations, supported by colleagues who provide child safeguarding, protection and family strengthening interventions and generally support implementation within the Family Strengthening Programme.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support in conducting gender, and social inclusion analysis across programmes
  • Support in the development of an action plan for gender and social inclusion and implementation plan for gender and inclusion development.
  • Use Gender and social inclusion analysis to purposefully engage youth, women, girls, men and boys, and other marginalized groups in all activities and result areas.
  • Provide technical leadership and oversight, and integration of gender and social inclusion approaches across program activities.
  • Responsible for ensuring that gender is effectively mainstreamed during programme designing and its overall management.
  • Implement gender related legal frameworks within the project
  • Lead in planning and budgeting of gender related projects within programme/projects. Identify gender issues for advocacy and take lead in championing advocacy initiatives
  • Direct support to Key Implementing Partners (KIPs) to build their capacity in program implementation.
  • Monitor development/growth progress KIPs and track efforts to implement OCA action plans. Organise routine capacity assessments for KIPs in a given location.
  • Support programme in ensuring that both boys and girls are equally protected, educated and healthy, enabling them into being contributing members of society.
  • Support programme in ensuring that male and female caregivers have equal access to socio-economic opportunities, care and protection of their children.
  • Support programme in ensuring that communities are gender sensitive in responding to the situation in the target group.
  • Facilitate GSI training and develop and/or adapt training content.
  • Support the integration of GSI activities within the work plan; GSI specific tools in work planning to promote gender balance in the project implementation.
  • Support development of GSI sensitive behaviour change communication activities and messages. Write success stories related to the GSI work being done.
  • Work closely with M&E team to ensure that GSI considerations are reflected in M&E plan, frameworks, and reports to assess whether the GSI objectives are being met. Support the tracking and maintenance of any GESI performance indicators.
  • Actively participating in child development and gender related networks. Reporting and documentation.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • The applicant must hold a Bachelor’s degree in social sciences, social work, development studies and a postgraduate training in gender and social development will be an added advantage
  • Three years of experience in implementing gender and advocacy related projects.
  • Sound understanding of child rights, child development, family and community development, rights based programming and management of CBOs.
  • Experience of project proposal writing and fund raising Experience in monitoring and evaluation of projects
  • Good communication and reporting skills. Computer literate.
  • Understanding and ability to apply community development participatory methodologies.
