Job Summary: As Business Development Manager, you will be leading fundraising efforts, proposal development, and support compliance of grants in South Sudan and Uganda Country Offices. You will liaise closely with programme and finance staff from the country offices, regional Office and HQ teams to assure the positioning of War Child in external networks and with (possible) partners and donors.

 

The jobholder will contribute to the implementation of the overall fund raising and networking plans in line with global strategy and will be leading such efforts in South Sudan and Uganda level. The Business Development Manager is part of South Sudan and Uganda senior management and He/she coordinates and collaborates closely with HoP, technical teams and field coordinators and other relevant departments. He/she also works closely with Regional Grants Manager, who supports the Country team on matters related to business development, proposal writing and compliance and oversees engagement and compliance across the region.

This role is based in Juba, South Sudan and requires a degree of travelling. It is a non-family posting.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Fundraising

  • Lead country offices in developing and implementing fundraising strategies, as part of their country strategy and in line with War Child’s country and global strategy.
  • Proactively identify funding opportunities and support countries with go and no-go decisions.
  • Implement fundraising activities, monitor and report on their progress and propose adjustments if necessary.
  • Support country offices, programmes and partners in the portfolio in improving knowledge on main donors, and their application processes and rules.

Proposal Writing

  • In collaboration with the country team, lead the development of concept notes and project proposals;
  • Liaise with relevant departments to ensure their timely contribution and review of proposals.
  • Lead internal review and approval processes for proposals.
  • Liaise with Head Office in reviewing and approval process of concept notes and proposals.
  • Coordinate donor due diligence process.

Compliance

  • Support compliance-related issues for the countries and programmes
  • Proactively inform countries and programmes on donor requirements and policies, in coordination with regional grants manager and account managers, if relevant.
  • Check donor reports generated by programme for quality and alignment with donors requirements and feedback from continuous improvement.
  • Lead internal review and approval processes for contracts, reports and donor communication.
  • Support country offices, programmes and partners in a portfolio in improving their competencies with regard to donor requirements and grant management (including compliance).
  • Maintains all grant-related documentation according to War Child policies and procedures.

Networking with (possible) donors and partners

  • Follow up and inform relevant teams on the most recent trends and policies of main donors for the countries and programmes in your portfolio.
  • Follow-up on socio-political and security context in the countries in your portfolio and proactively inform relevant teams.
  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders on the countries and programmes in your portfolio and relevant opportunities for funding and cooperation.
  • Participate in external meetings and working groups relevant for networking and fundraising
  • Identify needs and opportunities for partnerships/consortia, in close coordination with the country teams and programmes.
  • Prepare and conduct visits to/from donors, partners and stakeholders relevant to your portfolio.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • Post Graduate Study in development/international cooperation and/or communication and marketing
  • Five years of work of experience in  the  area  of  fundraising,  networking,  proposal
  • development with institutional donors with at minimum grant management experience in the European Commission USAID, DFID, GAC, UNICEF);
  • at least ten years of work experience in the area of international development and/or humanitarian aid preferably in South Sudan, Uganda or other African countries, 3 years of which should be at an international level.
  • Extensive experience in writing concept notes and grant proposals
  • Demonstrated donor expertise (donor contracts and related regulations and procedures), at minimum the EU and one other large donor (USAID, DFID, SIDA, UNICEF)
  • Knowledge and understanding of (institutional) donor networks.
  • Good knowledge regarding current development and trends in the international cooperation sector (humanitarian aid or development);
  • Excellent verbal and written communication expression skills in English
  • Excellent presentation skills
  • Good relation-building skills, diplomatic skills and strong in building and maintaining networks;
  • Excellent facilitation and organisational skills

Our offer

  • Salary will be based on 40 hours er week (the exact step determined by the years of your relevant working experience) on an expat package
