Joint Medical Store (JMS) is a Church-founded private not for profit organization whose mission is to supply medicines, medical equipment and related health care services of assured quality to the people of Uganda at affordable prices.
Job Summary: The Risk Officer will undertake the risk function of JMS and ensure enterprise wide risk management as a key enabler to achieving the business objectives of the organisation.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Champion risk management at JMS.
- Manage the process of identifying and assessing the risks affecting the organisation in order to develop risk mitigations, adequately plan risk responses and monitoring strategies for the organisation’s critical risks
- Establish Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) objectives for the organisation in order to ensure integration with the corporate strategy.
- Develop and maintain risk management capabilities in all directorates of JMS in line with the Risk Management policy.
- Establish, communicate and facilitate the use of appropriate Enterprise Risk Management methodologies, tools and techniques to ensure effective risk management.
- Keenly monitor, evaluate and challenge the organisation’s success in managing its risks in order to develop and continuously review risk management capabilities.
- Ensure appropriate risk reporting to senior management.
- Carry out risk management education and training from time to time in order to increase risk awareness across the organisation.
- Provide an independent view on proposed business plans and transactions in order to ensure proper oversight; identify and plan for possible risks.
- Ensure compliance with and regular review of the Risk Management Policy and Risk Management Framework in order to have relevant and up-to-date Risk Policies and ensure an effective risk management framework.
- Develop and communicate on risk management policies in order to increase awareness and appreciation of risk and build a risk culture organisation wide.
- Develop and communicate the company’s risk appetite and risk limits to ensure that the organisation’s risk exposure is within acceptable limits.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce/Business Administration (Accounting), or their equivalent.
- Full professional qualification such as ACCA, CPA of CIA
- Professional risk certificate such as CRA, CERA, CRM, CFA, or their equivalent.
- A minimum of four years’ experience in risk management/control, audit, compliance, in a busy environment preferably within the Healthcare Industry.
- A sound understanding of risk management principles and philosophy.
- A broad understanding of wholesale business preferably in pharmaceutical operations and products, and project management.
- Ability to effectively identify issues, analyse the problems and root causes and provide solutions.
- Ability to analyse and interpret large volumes of complex data.
- Ability to communicate and work with people at different levels.
- A keen and effective team player with excellent inter-personal skills.
- Ability to understand and interpret financial information and principles.
- Ability to think strategically.
- Ability to motivate and influence others, including those who are in more senior positions.
- Sound technical knowledge of Enterprise Risk Management methodologies, tools and technologies.
