Background
To address the unique needs of in-service teachers in conflict-affected contexts, War Child has developed a holistic teacher wellbeing and support program that provides individualised and scaffolded wellbeing and in class support to teachers through a continuous quality improvement-based coaching model. The program—Coaching, Observing, Reflecting, Engaging for Teachers (CORE for Teachers)— goes beyond the typical quick-fix workshop training model to provide sustained and reflective learning on a range of holistic skills that are almost never addressed in teacher training and professional development programs in crisis contexts.
The aim of CORE for Teachers is to have a positive impact on classroom climate by providing teachers with the skills and knowledge to create an enabling, impactful and safe, learning environment for their students. It will build teachers capacity in two areas.

Job Summary: The Education Coordinator’s main responsibility is to train and supervise the coaches who will implement CORE in schools. This will include ongoing training of coaches, providing ongoing supervision support to the coaches and liaising with the head teachers in the schools. The Education Coordinator will not have any contact with the teachers in the schools as this role will be taken by the coach.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Support the contextualisation of the methodology to ensure it is relevant to the context in Uganda.
- Support the development of the coach training based on the methodology and the Training of Trainers.
- Support the identification and understanding of the schools and ensure buy in for taking part in the study.
- Lead the training of the coach in preparation for the implementation of CORE
- Liaise with coach to coordinate timetables, reports and assessments
- Providing feedback, advice, and individual training sessions for coach as needed.
- Supervising identified data collection required of the coach and share with the Research Coordinator and relevant stakeholders as necessary.
- Support the adaptation of the methodology based on the data from implementation.
- Support logistical implementation of Can’t Wait to Learn and any other activities as identified during the course of the study.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The ideal applicant must hold a Master’s degree in education, social sciences, Development studies or the subject discipline.
- At least two years demonstrated knowledge and experience of education and the education system and/or coaching and mentoring. Experience teaching adults might be advantageous.
- Two years’ experience of facilitation and running group and/or one on one training sessions
- Knowledge of social emotion competences and/or wellbeing would be an advantage.
- Teaching experience would be an advantage.
- Work experience in rural settings and in particular refugee settings is desirable
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and conflict resolution skills
- Demonstrated creativity and problem‐solving skills in a fast‐paced, multi‐task environment
- Strong planning and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment
- Ability to set work priorities and initiatives and keep clear and regular records.
- Is trustworthy and has the ability to build and maintain strong and equal relationships.
- Shows commitment to professional growth and development
- Demonstrates interpersonal, problem solving, and organizational skills
- Personal qualities: Team player, flexible, network-builder, able to handle pressure, enjoys working in the field, values diversity, encourages openness and transparency, honest, good communications skills.
- Should be a resident of West Nile (Yumbe, Terego or Mado-Okollo districts)
- Patience and resilience.
