FCA Uganda is active in 13 districts and 7 refugee settlements. We are looking for a competent Grants Officer to be based in Kampala, Uganda.

 

Job Summary:  The Grants Officer will be responsible for supporting the project design, proposal and report writing and grant management procedures of the FCA Uganda Programme, jointly with the relevant country office staff, local partners and other stakeholders to ensure a timely, compliant and competitive proposals and compliance with donor rules and regulations.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • In coordination with the senior management team and Grants Manager, monitor and map new funding opportunities at the local level based on FCA Uganda Country Strategy and fundraising strategy; provide information for Country Programme management on relevant funding opportunities; ensure flow of information on donor rules and regulations.
  • Support annual planning with preparation and update of annual Income Plan and other relevant grants related tasks.
  • Together with Grants Manager, support programme team in competitive project design processes and development of concept notes and proposals, including budgets in collaboration with finance colleagues. Ensure compliance with donor strategies and requirements and timely submission of quality proposals.
  • Coordinate and follow up locally negotiated grants processes, manage donor relations and participate in donor negotiations, consortium meetings and other grants related coordination meetings.
  • Together with the Grants Manager, ensure donor compliance and quality grant management of received grants; support the programme team in preparing and delivering high quality donor reports in a timely manner, prepare material for and organize internal project kick-off meetings, follow up project launches, baselines and evaluations, audits and project closure meetings.
  • Provide continuous back-up support in donor compliance, rules and regulations and grants management to programme team and field teams.





Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • The ideal applicant must hold a Master’s Degree in Project management, International development, Business Administration or related field
  • Over 5 years of experience with proposal writing and grants management in humanitarian and development operations and through direct implementation of humanitarian and development programming.
  • Proven track record in raising and managing funds from institutional donors (like ECHO, EU, PRM, USAID, and UN agencies) and strong knowledge of donor’s interests, priorities and compliance mechanisms.
  • Experience in budget preparation, financial management, M&E, technical programming, and strong programmatic background in the humanitarian sector, preferably in Education in Emergencies and livelihoods.
  • Experience in facilitating trainings and workshops.
  • Excellent partnership building skills
  • Strong conceptual and analytical skills and demonstrated organizational, management and fundraising skills
  • Knowledge and experience of cooperation with governmental and non-governmental agencies in the field of development cooperation and humanitarian assistance
  • Conversant in project cycle management, project planning, fundraising and knowledge management
  • Excellent writing and budgeting skills, good attention to detail and highly numerate.
  • Ability to work independently
  • Pro-active and able to react rapidly to donor requests and urgent deadlines.
  • Ability to identify donor intelligence for appropriate timely action
  • Commitment to continuous learning and feedback gathering
  • Result oriented, problem solving and team player
