United Nations Capital Development Fund (UNCDF) is the UN’s capital investment agency for the world’s least developed countries. It creates new opportunities for poor people and their communities by increasing access to microfinance and investment capital. UNCDF focuses on Africa and the poorest countries of Asia and the Pacific, with a special commitment to countries emerging from conflict or crisis. It provides seed capital – grants and loans – and technical support to help microfinance institutions reach more poor households and small businesses, and local governments finance the capital investments – water systems, feeder roads, schools, irrigation schemes – that will improve poor peoples’ lives.
Job Summary: The Project support intern will support to the Project Leads and the Regional Digital Hub Manager for Eastern and Southern Africa.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: Specifically, the key activities of the intern will be:
- Assist the project leads in keeping track of the progress of various projects and ensure completion within deadlines
- Providing support for the procurement of the goods and services for example coming up with specifications and other sup[porting documents
- Participating in workshops/meetings and preparing relevant minutes, when needed;
- Providing other related organizational and logistical support, as required.
- Provides support to various project activities
- Participate in monitoring visits and document findings in project logs.
- Support the development of knowledge products and donor reports;
- Support the migration of information to online project management and data tools (Asana and Airtable);
- Support the organization and facilitating of field visits;
- Other tasks as requested by Project Leads and the Regional Digital Hub Manager.
NB: For those applicants that wish to combine the internship with the writing of their thesis, UNCDF may provide support in exploring research topics.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The applicant for the United Nations Capital Development Fund (UNCDF) Intern – Project Support job must be enrolled in a bachelor or master’s programme in technology, economics, public/business administration, social sciences, or related discipline, in a graduate school (second university degree or higher) at the time of application and during the internship (if a candidate is graduating before the internship period begins, they are no longer eligible); or pursuing their university/college studies, having completed at least two years of full-time studies at a university or equivalent institution towards the completion of a degree, if pursuing their studies in countries where higher education is not divided into undergraduate and graduate stages;
- Not have graduated prior to the beginning of the internship.
- Demonstrated interest in topics related to project management;
- Excellent organizational, inter-personal, communication and administrative skills;
- Able to take initiative and work independently;
- Proven ability to manage diverse and complex tasks;
- Excellent computer capabilities (Word, Excel, Power Point);
