Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- The Communications and Media Manager is accountable for delivery of the communications elements of the departmental strategy including media management, the production of communications products, and leading our digital strategy. This includes managing two key positions with responsibility for delivering internal communications, media engagement and the production of communications content to support our advocacy, campaign and programme objectives.
- They will also lead communications and media management during emergencies including the collection of case studies and production of media statements, with support of sector leads, ACCM Director and the Country Director.
- The Communications Manager will also lead the generation of information and stories from the field offices to the Kampala office. These stories will then be used to promote Save the Children’s work within Uganda and around the globe.
- The post-holder will develop written, multimedia and digital assets that will positively represent the work of Save the Children.
- He/she will manage Save the Children’s design and content production, and ensure that our digital channels are up to date and relevant for our audiences.
- In the event of a major humanitarian emergency, the role holder will be expected to work outside the normal role profile and be able to vary working hours accordingly.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The ideal candidate must hold a Bachelor’s Degree in communications, marketing, journalism, arts, or any related field
- Skills and Experience: At least 6 years’ experience in advertising, communications, media management, event management, marketing, public relations, or any related field.
- Communication and Technical Skills
- Experience developing creative content to support campaigns and advocacy.
- Experience developing communications materials for cause related issues.
- Experience in film/photography story production.
- Experience managing media and public relations issues.
- Experience writing for both creative storytelling and media releases
- Experience developing content strategies for social media.
- Excellent English writing skills, with experience in Uganda’s local languages a bonus.
- Ability to speak confidently in front of the media, donors and senior staff
- Ability to deliver key messages to the media
- Good eye for page layouts and graphic design
- Excellent experience developing and implementing social media strategies.
- Good understanding of the key components in brand management
- Excellent personal organisational skills, including time management, and ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure
- Willingness to travel to field offices and work in difficult environment according to travel requirements
- Ability to manage small teams and work across a variety of internal stakeholders.
- Good people management skills/experience and proven ability to create an environment, which encourages team working and motivates a team across various geographical areas.
- Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues across the organisation developing effective working relationships to deliver outstanding results for children
- Commitment to and understanding of Save the Children’s aims, values and principles.
- Willingness and capability to comply with all relevant Save the Children policies and procedures with respect to health and safety, security, equal opportunities and other relevant policies, including the Child Safeguarding Policy
- Ability to travel on regular basis.
