Works in partnership with a number of donors, (institutional and corporate agencies) including; Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (NORAD), Austrian Development Agency (ADA), Grieg Foundation, ERIKS Development Partner, USAID/Bantwana World Education, European Union, AVIS Foundation, Brand Charity, USAID/Uganda Private Health Support Program (UPHSP), Terre des Hommes (TDH), Stanbic Bank Uganda, DHL – Go Teach, Madhvani Group of Companies.

 

Job Summary: The Senior Accountant reports directly to the Head of Finance and ensures that income, expenditures and property of SOS Children’s Villages Uganda are well accounted for through keeping of proper and updated accounts of all financial and property transactions of SOS Children’s Villages Uganda. Coordinating the Planning and Budgting for the Natioanl Association. Facilitates the auditing of accounts by internal and external auditors. The National Senior Accountant is responsible also for the overall administration of the budget of SOS Children’s Villages Uganda.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Organizes the accounting system of National Office and assists projects to organize their respective accounting systems as per the guidelines established.
  • Ensures that projects receive and are aware of financial policies and procedures of SOS Children’s Villages Uganda.
  • Follows-up the timely submission of budget proposals by projects and offices of the National Office. Gives necessary comments on budget proposals and submits to the Head of Finance. Consolidates budget proposals to national project proposal for submission to the Board and Regional Office for approval.
  • Administers and controls use of approved budget. Carries out budget utilization comparison periodically as per the directive thereon. Arranges transfer of budget to projects as per plan and procedure.
  • Follows-up the receipt of donation from the Regional Office, donor fund and sponsorships’ gifts. Ensures proper utilization and accounting of the same.
  • Checks appropriateness of requests for payments. Approves payments as per the delegation thereon.
  • Checks completeness and appropriateness of supporting documents of both income and expenditure transactions, codes, documents for account recording, ensures timely recording of all transactions.
  • Controls cash and bank accounts, reconciles bank account with bank statement. • Checks proper accounting keeping by projects, provides advices and assistance as necessary thereon, reports inconsistencies to the Finance Head.
  • Data Management and control. Receives monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements from projects. Consolidates the same to National Office financial statement and submits to the Head of Finance.
  • Ensures proper record keeping of all fixed assets and property at National Office and projects.
  • Directs, coordinates and executes inventory taking at locations
  • Performs the balancing and closing of accounts and supports with drafting of annual financial statements.
  • Facilitates the auditing of accounts by internal and external auditors.
  • Carries out and performs other similar duties as assigned by the Head of Finance





Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • The ideal applicant must hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Finance or Accounting, Bachelor of Commerce, Bachelor of Business Administration – Finance and Accounting.
  • Professional qualification of ACCA or CPA will be of an added advantage.
  • At least six years of work relevant working experience.
  • Computer skills with familiarity using accounting software packages.
