Job Summary: To support the implementation of project activities of a new project, “Building Resilience and Protection Systems for the Well-being of Children and Youth in Refugee and Host Communities in Moyo District, Uganda.” Being an employee of ChildFund, the Project Officer is expected to represent the organization in a responsible manner and always act in accordance with ChildFund code of conduct.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Remain alert and responsive to any child safeguarding risks, acquire relevant knowledge and skills which will enable you to promote strong safeguarding practices, understand the child safeguarding policy and procedures, and conduct yourself in a manner consistent with the Child Safeguarding Policy.
- Prepares work plans and budgets in collaboration and coordination with Partners.
- Follows up the approved plans to ensure set objectives are met.
- Ensures that cases of the survivors are followed closely and are reported immediately.
- Oversees gender-based violence (GBV) and Child Protection (CP) activities in the camps/ sub counties.
- Supervises and Mentors community outreach teams, service providers, and traditional protection structures and youth activities.
- Build an effective collaborative relationship with the district and lower local government structures for smooth project implementation.
- Holds and attends consultative meetings with other NGOs, CBS and service providers in accordance with ChildFund policy and guidelines.
- Makes field visits and trains the service providers on how to handle survivors of Gender Based Violence and Child Protection in the camps.
- Creates awareness to the community together with the outreach teams.
- Follows up each case of Gender Based Violence systematically to its logical conclusion by involving stakeholders, advocacy and law enforcement authorities where necessary.
- Mentors service providers including counselors and investigators to track each case from the time violence is committed until the culprit is identified.
- Coordinates and conducts assessments for the survivors in order to establish the progress towards their recovery.
- Collaborates with camp leader, host local community authorities, camp-based women groups, religious leaders, community groups, health care workers, NGOs and others.
- Prepares detailed weekly reports on GBV and CP activities and presents to Program Manager.
- Responds to all inquiries from donors concerning the project.
- Coordinates with the Finance Officer to ensure that monthly financial reports are accurate and timely.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The ideal applicant must hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Social Sciences, or Development Studies, or a related field and a Post-graduate Diploma in Project Planning and Management.
- At least three (3) years post qualification experience in a similar position in a development organization.
- At least two (2) years’ experience working in a rural setting, refugee setting or conflict situation is an advantage.
- Knowledge of GBV and CP prevention and response
- Possession of computer skills is necessary.
- Knowledge of the local context and language is an added advantage.
- Demonstrable aptitude for teamwork.
- High level of interpersonal skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively both in writing and orally.
- Ability to take fast decisions.
- Motor cycle license or ability and interest to learn and ride motor cycle.
- Knowledge of local language will be an added advantage.
