Job Summary:  As a member of the Extended Senior Management Team, the Regional Area Manager provides strategic leadership in the overall responsibility for the direction and coordination of the Regional Office and regional based emergency operations.  The Regional Area Manager is responsible for all of the regions program management, operations and implementation of all awards, including the management of sub area and district-based operations and offices, emergency responses (including DRR), supply chain, partnership, and safety & security in the region. The Regional Area Manager will ensure compliance to policies and Standard Operating Procedures of Save the Children with regards to Child Safeguarding, safety and security and other relevant policies.





Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • The ideal candidate for the Save the Children Regional Area Manager job placement should hold a Master’s Degree or higher or equivalent field experience
  • At least eight years of progressive experience in Programme implementation with at least five in a middle management position in an NGO.
  • Thorough understanding of national poverty strategies as well as current national and international trends in global poverty and development.
  • Child Protection Code of Conduct.
  • Strong financial, planning and budget management skills and experience.
  • Strategic management skills.
  • Diplomacy and confidentiality.
  • Strong negotiation and effective interpersonal skills.
  • Networking and policy development and policy engagement.
  • Analytical skills.
  • Experience of working with local partners and Local Governments.
  • Strong analytical skills and strategic planning abilities.
  • Ability to establish and maintain conducive collegial relations and perform effectively as a member of a team.
  • Computer literacy and excellent documentation skills are a must.
  • Availability and willingness to work extra hours during times of humanitarian responses.
  • Highly developed cultural awareness and ability to work well in an international environment with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures
  • Ability to intervene with crisis management or troubleshooting as necessary.
  • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills including influencing, negotiation and coaching
  • Excellent time management and planning capacity
  • Availability and willingness to work extra hours during times of humanitarian responses.

Desirable

  • Experience of M&E and beneficiary accountability systems.
  • Experience of managing supply chain, logistics and security operations.
  • Experience of working in insecure environments.
  • Extensive on the field experience.
  • Solid budgeting skills and knowledge of key donor regulations.
  • Willingness to work and travel in often difficult and insecure environments.
  • Familiarity with child rights issues or thorough knowledge of child development and child rights governance.
