Job Summary: The Research, Monitoring and Evaluation Assistant (RMEA) in Uganda is responsible for assisting the Uganda Research Monitoring and Evaluation Manager (RMEM) the Sydney-based Global Research, Monitoring and Evaluation (RME) team and Adara Development Uganda team with the implementation of RME and knowledge sharing activities in Uganda. The RMEA will support the implementation of Adara’s research, monitoring and evaluation strategic plan in Uganda, conducting monitoring and evaluation, ensuring timely and accurate reporting, and contributing toward knowledge sharing activities.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
To support the implementation of RME activities, and knowledge sharing activities across MNCH programmes
- Support the implementation of agreed RME activities in Uganda, including collection, entry, and some analysis where appropriate of data (including academic study data, and medical data), and ensure data quality, accuracy and reliability.
- Conduct and analyse interviews under the direction of the RMEM and the UCD.
- Support the implementation of a knowledge sharing strategy by assisting with coordinating the dissemination of research results, reports, and other relevant documents through events, meetings, webinars and presentations.
- Where needed, assist in developing operational monitoring tools (e.g., checklists, questionnaires, databases, interviews, and survey forms, etc.)
- Support research (desk and/or field) and study activities on M&E related issues.
- Assist in the completion of quarterly, annual and final reports;
- Support in the processes for mid and/or final term evaluations;
- Promptly respond to emails and calendar requests from the RMEM and meet regularly.
- Collect and record stories on a regular basis ensuring informed consent is obtained
- Assist the RMEM and other M&E staff, volunteers and consultants to organise field visits and, where needed, accompany staff in the field and act as a translator/interviewer.
- Ensure strong data management practices, including keeping a backup of all RME related data and electronic versions and hard copies of all documentation related to RME in a password protected computer and a locked cupboard and protect the confidentiality of all information.
- Where required by the RMEM, participate in delivering RME training.
- Actively contribute to the preparation of formative research survey and evaluation studies conducted by any project.
- Provide technical assistance to project implementing officers coordinators in building capacity in the use of data collection tools.
- Assist in maintaining a clear and transparent filing system
- Undertake any other duties as relevant for the development and implementation of Adara’s RME framework in Uganda
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The applicant must hold a diploma or degree in Public Health, Community Development, Monitoring & Evaluation, statistics or related field.
- Two years of experience in Public Health, Maternal, Newborn and Child Health, Community Development or Monitoring & Evaluation programmes in Uganda.
- Some experience in qualitative and quantitative research methods
- Training in monitoring and evaluation and demonstrated ability in developing and implementing M&E frameworks and systems (Logical Framework Analysis, Theory of Change and other M&E frameworks).
- Knowledge and experience in data collection, consultation with community, report writing and documentation.
- Ability to care for and protect confidential information and high level of integrity and work ethic.
- Fluency in spoken and written English. Fluency in local languages in Uganda, and knowledge and familiarity of local customs and culture.
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, with the ability to communicate with people from all social positions and ability to listen carefully and with patience and humility when interacting with people from all walks of life.
- Good team player with strong organisational skills and strong interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in MS Office, including Word, advanced New Excel, SPSS ,Epi info, and Outlook and ability to work with internet-based communication methods including Teams.
- Ability to work efficiently and meet tight deadlines.
- Respect to human rights (women’s and children’s rights in particular) and passion for Maternal, Newborn and Child Health, Public Health and Community Development.
- Ability and willingness to work with children, women and men from diverse social, ethnic, religious and cultural groups in Uganda.
- Ability to ride a motorcycle or ride a bicycle would be favourable.
- Willing to stay in Rural setting, Nakaseke District.
