The Infectious Diseases Research Collaboration (IDRC) is a non-profit research organization. IDRC conducts research in infectious diseases including Malaria, HIV and Tuberculosis. Our studies have led to over 300 publications and have impacted on the management of infectious diseases in Uganda. IDRC currently manages over 41 Grants with an annual budget of $11 million. IDRC was established in May 2008 by Ugandan health scientists from Makerere University College of Health Sciences, University of California, San Francisco and the Uganda Ministry of Health.
Job Summary: The Infectious Diseases Research Collaboration (IDRC) seeks to hire a suitable candidate for the position of Driver for the Implementing Malaria Molecular Surveillance (IMMRSE) study. The successful candidate will be based at the Kampala office.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- To provide safe, comfortable and reliable transportation for staff. This includes ensuring that safety belts are worn at all times, no smoking in the vehicle and that no alcohol is consumed before driving
- To safely transport supplies to various destinations as required
- To keep the vehicle in good mechanical and functional condition including but not confined
- to regular fueling, servicing and cleaning of the interior and exterior.
- To perform regular preventive maintenance and minor repairs where possible.
- Ensure maximum security of vehicle and its accessories under your charge.
- Monitor condition and performance of vehicle and promptly report to supervisor
- Take vehicle for scheduled servicing and repairs as directed by your supervisor
- Submit monthly reports on vehicle movements and mechanical conditions using a template provided by the supervisor
- To ensure that all required documentation for administrative use such as mileage, fuel usage and trip authorization tracking information is kept up to date at all times in the prescribed manner.
- To ensure that all dues are met in good time and/or regularly renewed e.g. Third party and Comprehensive Insurance, Parking Fees, Registration and Licenses
- Any other duty assigned by your supervisor, to suit the changing needs of the Project office within IDRC.
Key Result Areas
- Project staff and supplies transported safely and on time.
- Project vehicle kept clean, serviced and well maintained.
- Timely monthly reports on vehicle movements, and mechanical condition
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The applicant should hold a Diploma level and A Level certificates but O’ level certification is also acceptable depending on years of experience.
- At least three years of driving experience in both town and upcountry settings.
- Should have a valid driving permit.
- Should be able to drive both manual and automatic vehicles.
- Defensive driving certificate is an added advantage.
- Experience handling sensitive project supplies, samples, working in hard to reach areas and working long hours.
