The United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme contributes to peace and development through volunteerism worldwide. We work with partners to integrate qualified, highly motivated and well-supported UN Volunteers into development programming and promote the value and global recognition of volunteerism. UNV is administered by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and reports to the UNDP/UNFPA/UNOPS Executive Board.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: Under the direct supervision of the Health Specialist, the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:
- Provide day-to-day support to district local governments to roll out maternal, infant, young child and adolescent nutrition strategy, including family led-MUAC.
- Work closely and collaboratively with colleagues and districts to discuss operational and implementation issues to accelerate implementation strategies on children diet.
- Provide solutions, recommendations and/or alert appropriate officials and district level stakeholders for higher-level intervention and/or decision-making
- Keep record of reports and assessments for easy reference and/or to capture and institutionalize lessons learned.
- Participate in monitoring and evaluation exercises, programme reviews and annual reviews with the government and other counterparts to assess programmes/projects and to report on required action and interventions at the higher level of programme management.
- Prepare regular and mandated sectoral programme/project reports for management, donors and partners to keep them informed of programme progress.
- Conduct regular programme field visits and exchange information with partners and stakeholders to assess progress and provide technical support.
- Support to nutrition programme planning in the Western Zonal Office.
Results/Expected Outputs:
- Monthly progress report on the nutrition activities in the UNICEF zonal office
- MIYCAN rolled out in UNICEF focal districts of the zonal office.
- Family MUAC implemented at the community level within selected districts.
- The development of capacity through coaching, mentoring and formal on-the-job training, when working with (including supervising) national staff or (non-) governmental counterparts, including Implementing Partners (IPs);
- Age, Gender and Diversity (AGD) perspective is systematically applied, integrated and documented in all activities throughout the assignment
- A final statement of achievements towards volunteerism for development during the assignment, such as reporting on the number of volunteers mobilized, activities participated in and capacities developed
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The ideal candidate for the United Nations Volunteers (UNV) Nutrition Coordination Officer job placement must hold a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Nutrition, public health, nutritional epidemiology, global/international health and nutrition, health/nutrition research, policy and/or management, health sciences, nutritional epidemiology, food science, biological sciences, anthropology, medicine, or another health-related science field.
- Three years of experience in Professional experience in implementation of nutrition projects and programmes, programme management function or a technical expert capacity in nutrition, health and nutrition education and behaviour change approaches.
- Experience in district and/or sub national level engagements with government and partners, technical knowledge of nutrition prevention approaches, especially in maternal, infant and young child nutrition, team building and rallying partners around a common objective and willingness to travel including in districts and communities to monitor and implement nutrition programmes
- Languages: English, Level: Fluent, Required
- Age: 27 – 80 years

- Flexibility, adaptability, and ability and willingness to operate independently in austere, remote and potentially hazardous environments for protracted periods, involving physical hardship and little comfort, and including possible extensive travel within the area of operations; willingness to transfer to other duty stations within area of operations as may be necessary;
