ENCOT’s mission is to provide microfinance services to low-income smallholder farmer communities, most especially women, to allow them curve their own paths out of poverty through creation of own jobs.

 

Job Summary:  The role is responsible for ensuring that ENCOT conducts its business processes in compliance with laws and regulations, professional standards, and accepted business practices. The Risk and Compliance Officer has a responsibility for upholding the ethical integrity of the organization and ensuring that business activities are conducted using a regulatory framework. He should advise Management on possible risks and how to mitigate them through performing regular audits and executing them under design control systems.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop, maintain and implement strategies and annual plans for risk and compliance management and related activities
  • Maintain and review policies, procedures, business continuity plans and annual plans for Compliance
  • Oversee and monitor the implementation of the risk and compliance frameworks throughout the ENCOT including risk and compliance assessments, control environment evaluations and action plans.
  • Report on Risk and Compliance to senior management, Audit and Risk Committees and as required, external stakeholders.
  • Ensure Risk and Compliance Assessments are undertaken including analysis and reports on developments, exposures, control, breaches and related action plans across ENCOT.
  • Identify and communicate as necessary industry developments and changes in best practice for risk and compliance management.
  • Provide guidance, advice, and/ or training and educational programs, to embed business understanding of risk management, related laws, regulatory, contractual and policy requirements to staff and key stakeholders, as required
  • Liaise with senior managers in particular to ensure they understand their roles and obligations within their jurisdictions and commit with timelines for reporting.
  • Provide additional appropriate support to other departments. Management and supervision of members of the risk and compliance team.
  • Any other duties assigned.





Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Studies, Accounting, Finance or related field or equivalent work experience; MBA or Advanced education preferred. With a minimum of 4 years’ experience.
  • Strong background and prior experience in risk and compliance management cycle.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills in people management including the ability to lead and motivate others.
  • Vast knowledge and understanding of the Microfinance industry, contemporary microfinance product(s) structure and loan management systems in a rapidly growing microfinance business.
  • Strong training and mentoring skills.
  • Excellent organizational and planning skills.
  • Good interpersonal and both written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience in donor and partner relations
  • Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and commitment to ENCOT’s mission and vision.
  • Flexible and able to multitask; work within an ambiguous, fast-moving environment while driving toward clarity and solutions; demonstrated resourcefulness in setting priorities and guiding investment in people and systems.
  • Proficiency in MS Office suite, good understanding of IT and its role in modern management as well delivery of services to target customers.
  • Able to travel as required.
