Job Summary: The Project Driver will be responsible for transportation of Country Program staff, equipment, and materials required in the implementation of the country program’s activities. The Driver will be fully responsible for the operations and maintenance of WaterAid Uganda’s (WAU’s) vehicles in his/ her possession.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Ensuring all WaterAid vehicles are well maintained (routine service being done promptly) and repairs are done in approved garages. This will also involve requests for the purchase of spare parts and consumables such as fuel, oil etc.
- The position holder will be in charge of keeping the vehicles and the equipment maintained, ensuring that the vehicle has all necessary supplies.
- Drive the vehicles with strict adherence to local traffic laws and in accordance to programme rules and regulations pertaining to vehicles
- Transport project staff and materials in Kampala and the regions, ensuring thorough familiarity with routes to programme activity target areas;
- Maintain the vehicle in a satisfactory condition, including weekly cleaning of the interior and exterior and periodic (quarterly) cleaning of the motor and chassis
- Ensure tyres are in good working conditions at all times.
- Ensure vehicle usage log is updated on a daily basis and submitted on a monthly basis
- Carry out minor repairs and DIY requirements on all vehicles as required by any vehicle driver.
- Ensures all vehicles are properly up-dated on their insurance and licences policies.
- Work with officer in charge to plan for field trips and advise accordingly on timelines required for travel.
- Ensure fuel consumption report is submitted as required
- Report any apparent malfunction to the supervisor
- Ensure damages or accidents to official vehicles are properly recorded and reported in accordance with rules and regulations
- Ensure the vehicle is safely parked and locked when not in use
- Will also double as the Fire Safety Officer, ensuring fire extinguishers are in place, operational and regularly serviced.
- Responsible for safety of vehicles outside WAU premises.
- Ensure vehicle keys are kept under safe custody at all times
- Ensures punctuality and courtesy is maintained at all times
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The ideal candidate must hold an Advanced Diploma in Transport and Logistics or any related field
- Valid driver’s permit with class B, CM and DL ;
- Six years of driving experience within an INGO
- Good written and spoken english with the ability to produce reports in MS office applications e.g. Word, Excel
- Good technical knowledge in mechanics and experience with vehicle repair and maintenance.
- Record free of accidents
- Good Knowledge of understanding of traffic rules and regulations
- Good Interpersonal relations skills, planning, organising and team player skills
- Mature with a high sense of responsibility, alert, flexibility, courteous and neat
