We work with partners to integrate qualified, highly motivated and well-supported UN Volunteers into development programming and promote the value and global recognition of volunteerism. UNV is administered by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and reports to the UNDP/UNFPA/UNOPS Executive Board.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Under the direct supervision of Chief Air Operations, Chief planning Officer or OIC Entebbe Air ops, (please complete with the function of the supervisor), the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:

  • The UN Volunteer will Receive AURs for aircraft based in Entebbe and check that the applicable accompanying documents such as fuel slip, passenger & cargo manifests and ATOs are attached and
  • process them daily in both lotus notes database and AIMS;
  • Liaise with the planners in Mission Air Operations Center to ensure that all tasks in respect to Entebbe based aircraft are planned and validated in AIMS;
  • Coordinate all refueling and turn around for UNMISS flights into/out of Entebbe;
  • Coordinate for all weather crew weather briefing;
  • Coordinate with the Administrative leadership of Entebbe support base and RSCE to solve any problems that the aircrew may encounter in their accommodation, meals, and transportation;
  • Liaise with the air carrier site manager based in Entebbe to ensure that all UNOE allocated to the crews are returned upon the termination/end of the carrier’s contract;
  • Coordinate with Monusco Air ops team when necessary to ensure seamless operations;
  • Monitor and check technical compliance of the commercial contract based in Entebbe in relation with aircraft maintenance;
  • Monitor maintenance of aircraft based in Entebbe and ensure that they are airworthy before tasking;
  • Receive and approve aircraft maintenance and ground engine run requests;
  • Release aircraft to service for Mission tasking after scheduled/unscheduled maintenance;
  • Liaison with Entebbe Air traffic control on aircraft positions at all times for your situational awareness;
  • Coordinate with Movcon Entebbe for pax and cargo movements, Medevac and Casevac flights;
  • Coordinate very closely with Duty officer in MAOC for any changes to schedules and ensure Crew is briefly accordingly.




Results/Expected Outputs:

  • Efficiently Manage day to day activities of the Entebbe base air operations;
  • Detailed and up-to-date knowledge with the capability to apply this knowledge;

  • Results achieved within set timeframe; readiness to bear responsibility for failure to fulfil duties;

  • Adhere to DFS timelines and act professionally as a the coordinator for all air movements into/Out of Entebbe;
  • The crew qualification documents, Licenses, medical certificates and al related paperwork are saved in the appropriate folders;
  • The AURs and ATS Monthly reports are processed error free and in timely manner;
  • The crew Flown hours and duty time are properly monitored;
  • Hard copies of AURs, Fuel slips and ATOs are properly stored and submitted to TCU in Juba if and when required;
  • The Aircraft utilization statistics are compiled on time and accurately;
  • Flight information service provided is timely to all Aircraft operating within the state, this is in liaison with Entebbe ATC.

Furthermore, UN Volunteers are required to:

  • Strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the concept of volunteerism by reading relevant UNV and external publications and take active part in UNV activities (for in-stance in events that mark
  • International Volunteer Day);
  • Be acquainted with and build on traditional and/or local forms of volunteerism in the host country;
  • Reflect on the type and quality of voluntary action that they are undertaking, including participation in ongoing reflection activities;
  • Contribute articles/write-ups on field experiences and submit them for UNV publications/websites, newsletters, press releases, etc.;
  • Assist with the UNV Buddy Programme for newly-arrived UN Volunteers;
  • Promote capacity development activities and transfer of skills to national personnel during the assignment;
  • Promote or advise local groups in the use of online volunteering, or encourage relevant local individuals and organizations to use the UNV Online Volunteering service whenever technically possible.




Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • The ideal applicant should have at least three years of experience in Aviation industry;
  • Experience in the Aviation industry, certificate in Flight dispatch, Operations, Air traffic control or Commercial Pilot License are desirable.
  • Should have proven training in the Aviation Industry. Air Traffic Control certificate, Private Pilot License(PPL) , Commercial Pilot License(CPL);
  • Solid computer skills, including full proficiency in various MS Office applications (Excel, Word etc) and other IT applications and office technology equipment;
  • Driving license
  • Manual transmission Required
