PostBank Uganda Ltd is a government-owned bank regulated by Bank of Uganda under the Financial Institutions Act, 2004. The bank focuses on the mass market with operations spread across the country. The bank is growing and enhancing its services.
Job Summary: The Database Administrator mainly administers the bank’s databases and data storage and reporting systems. The role also ensures the safety of stored data by implementing security controls.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Establish the bank’s data storage and processing requirements, as well as monitoring their access and security.
- Monitors performance and manages parameters to provide fast query response to front end users.
- Ensure adequate availability and integrity of databases, and maintain data standards, including adherence to Data Protection Act.
- Control access permission and privileges to the banks data storage facilities.
- Ensure correct and verified database back up, logs, restoration, Disaster
- Recovery Site snap mirrors, replications & implementation of continuity measures and processes in preparedness of any unpredictable event or catastrophe.
- Ensure quick access to information by all stakeholders, through data mining, scripting and report customization in order to facilitate the monitoring of business performance indicator and fostering informed decision making by management.
- Working closely with IT project managers, application administrators and participate in capacity planning.
- Participate in establishment of policies and procedures pertaining to management’s security, maintenance and use of the database management system and application.
- Communicate regularly with the technical team, application administrators and operation staff to ensure database integrity and security.
- Installing and testing new versions of the database management systems (DBMS)
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- An undergraduate degree in BI, IT, Computer Science or related business field is required (advanced degree will be an added advantage).
- Professional Certification such as Oracle Certified Professional
- (OCP), Microsoft SQL Server etc, are desirable.
- At least three years of administering corporate database management systems
- First level user support on database issues
- Ensure availability of bank’s systems all the time
- Avail daily and monthly systems reports to respective users’ departments
- Perform systems backups and restorations
- Maintain proper documentation on the bank’s database setup and processes
- The ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in written form in
- a professional manner is deemed essential.
- Ability to build functioning working relationships across organizational, corporate, and cultural boundaries.
- Ability to demonstrate positive image and role model PBU’s values and leadership behaviours.
- Must be a person of impeccable integrity.
