DFCU Limited was started by the Commonwealth Development Corporation (CDC) of the United Kingdom and the Government of Uganda through the Uganda Development Corporation (UDC) under the name of Development Finance Company of Uganda Limited. Later restructuring brought in DEG (of Germany) and International Finance Corporation (IFC) as equal partners with CDC and UDC, each having a 25% stake in the company. Its objective was to support long-term development projects whose financing needs and risk did not appeal to the then existing financial commercial lending institutions.
Job Summary: Reporting to the Head- Facilities and Administration, the Manager – Insurance Operations will oversee all the Bank’s insurance operations, mapping and implementing all insurance processes, oversee the placement and claims process while ensuring compliance to all Regulatory requirements of both Bank risks and the Bancassurance business.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Manage insurance operations and productivity at dfcu Bank for income generation.
- Develop and review process flows, and documents related to insurance operations of dfcu Bank to mitigate risks.
- Identify and analyze risks to the Bank; negotiate insurance policies to cover the Bank’s Assets, liabilities, and staff, and ensure that all insurable risks are covered.
- Establish framework and guidelines for the insurance related operations to guide the whole insurance process.
- Consult with and advise the various units of the Bank to ensure that they are aware of the insurance coverage in place and the premiums charged, as well as respond to any queries.
- Provide technical guidance on determining insurable risks, insurance cover required, extent of coverage, amongst others to protect the Bank from losses and risks.
- Put in place a structure to ensure that bank specific and credit related claims are duly attended to.
- Monitor operations of insurance to ensure compliance with Ugandan Laws and Regulations, as well as dfcu Bank policies and procedures.
- Work with the Principal Officer Bancassurance to handle Bancassurance related operations and reporting.
- Advise the procurement department on the criteria for pre-qualification of insurance service providers to enable efficient services.
- Report to Management as to the performance of the insurance administration and operations.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The ideal candidate for the DFCU Bank Manager – Insurance Operations job placement must hold a Bachelor’s Degree.
- COP / CIU certification.
- Two years at supervisory level.
- At least six years of working experience in Insurance / Banking in related field.
- Knowledge of practical application in most insurance packages and policies.
- High level of integrity and ethical standards.
- Attention to detail, excellent analytical skills and ability to demonstrate high degree of accuracy.
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, written, communications and independent judgement skills.
- Good organisation skills.
- Excellent negotiation skills.
