Accountant – Uganda Law Society (ULS)

Uganda Law Society (ULS) is a membership organization established by an Act of
Parliament to provide services to its membership and the people of Uganda in
general. Its vision is to excel as a professional body in the development of
the legal profession and promotion of justice in Uganda. Its mission is to
improve the professional standards of members of the legal profession, and to
promote human rights, and the rule of law, by assisting the Government and the
Judiciary in the administration and practice of law in Uganda for the benefit
of the people of Uganda.



The Society is
looking for a qualified and experienced individual to fill the following
position:
Accountant (1) Position



Duty station:  Kampala
This person
reports to the Head Finance and Administration and his/her the major
responsibilities will include:
(i)
Coordinating the processing of financial transactions of the Uganda Law
Society;
(ii) Ensuring proper receipt and accountability of all incomes and expenditures
at the Head Office and from Projects/ branches being conducted by Uganda Law
Society;
(iii) Writing books of accounts and making bank reconciliation; extracting the
trial balance and financial statements as may be required by the Head of
Department;
(iv) Preparation of the staff payroll, making statutory deductions and returns
within the stipulated deadlines;
(v) Ensuring that all payments are sufficiently supported by the relevant
vouchers, requisitions or any other requisite documentation and duly approved
by the relevant authority;
(vi) Making timely cash transfers to the ULS branch offices as shall be
directed by the Head  
Finance and Administration;
(vii) Compiling and submitting monthly status of activity and financial reports
as may be required of the Department of Finance and Administration and of
designated projects to the
Head Finance and Administration; and
(viii) Any other lawful duties as may be assigned by the Head of Department
Education and Experience:
(i) Degree in Commerce, Business Administration or equivalent;
(ii) Knowledge and experience of related computer applications; and
(iii) At least a minimum of 2 years working experience in the management of
financial systems and budgets, financial reporting, financial data analysis, auditing,
taxation and providing financial advice.

(i) Attention to detail and accuracy;
(ii) Strong communication and interpersonal skills;
(iii) Supervisory skills;
(iv) Knowledge and ability to use applicable
information technology and systems to meet work. Proficiency in the use of
Quick Books Accounting Software will be very vital;
(v) Integrity, Confidentiality and ability to accomplish tasks promptly under
minimum supervision; and
(vi) Good report writing skills.
