UNRA Engineering Jobs – Road Safety Manager
Reports to: Director of Planning.
Job Summary: The holder of the post is responsible for leading and championing the road safety agenda covering engineering and other related aspects of road safety in UNRA. This includes but is not limited to key strategic interventions and operational technical work in support of the road safety engineering service.
Key duties & Responsibilities:
· Carries out various stages of road safety audits for road projects at preliminary design, detailed design and post implementation stages in accordance with approved guidelines;
· Prepare and implement the Road Safety Action Plan
· Provides safety engineering advice and guidance into various road infrastructure projects;
· Undertakes regular reviews of technical specifications for development projects and maintenance performance standards to ensure safety aspects are incorporated;
· Identifies the need for proactive road safety initiatives eg audits etc on proposed road schemes and devises implementable strategies for achieving outcome based recommendations to improve road safety aspects at preparation or post implementation stages.
· Carrying out road safety related inspections and designs of collision reduction schemes
· In coordination with other sister agencies, collectively champions the non engineering aspects of road safety including, education and sensitization.
· Identifies designs and implements the mitigating interventions for vulnerable road users in the design of roads and prepares various Non Motorized User (NMU) safety reports and NMU audit reports.
· Prepares regular and ad hoc reports for the Director of Planning as required.
Qualifications, Skills & Experience:
· The post holder must have a Bachelors Degree in Civil engineering and a Masters Degree in either Civil Engineering/Highway/Transport/ Road Safety Engineering.
· Should be a Chartered or Registered Engineer with a recognized engineering institution
· Should have at least 10 years road sector experience of which at least 3 years must have covered key professional involvement in aspects of road safety engineering, road safety audits and in-depth knowledge of British/Uganda Design standards and procedures with either a client or a consultant.
