WWF is one of the world’s largest independent and experienced conservation organizations operating in over 100 countries in the world. WWF UCO implements a number of national programmes promoting environment conservation in Uganda.
Key Duties & Responsibilities:
· Fundraise to strengthen WWF UCO’s human and technical competence to contribute towards better management of environment and social issues associated with oil and gas development in Uganda.
· Implement and improve the effectiveness of existing oil and gas projects of WWF UCO including monitoring and evaluation of project results.
· Develops and disseminates appropriate communication materials (posters, newsletters, factsheets etc.) on key issues associated with oil and gas development in Uganda. These materials will be developed based on sound scientific knowledge and established best practices from within WWF Network or its partners both local and international.
· Coordinate the engagement of WWF UCO with various stakeholders including government, private sector and civil society on oil and gas policies, laws and institutions at both national and district local government levels;
· Identify and engage various stakeholders at different levels to promote the integration of environmental and social concerns in oil and gas development in Uganda.
· Organize and implement internal and external capacity strengthening including but not limited to civil society, private sector and government actors on effective management of environmental and social aspects associated with oil and gas development in Uganda;
· Undertakes research and develop sustainability tools to promote improved environmental and social performance of oil and gas development in Uganda;
· Coach, mentor, motivate and supervise project team members and third party partners, and influence them to take positive action and accountability for their assigned work.
· Supervise and coordinate all project activities and ensure that the tasks are performed to the fullest of the efficiency.
Qualifications, Skills & Experience:
· Bachelors Degree in Environmental and Natural Resource Management with a strong bias towards social development and extractives;
· Experience in civil society organizational capacity development, lobbying, advocacy, natural resources management is a must;
· At least 3 years of relevant professional experience in the technical areas identified above;
· Experience in oil and gas or extractives development is an added advantage;
· Fluency in English and at least one other major language spoken (Swahili, Luo and/or Runyakitara) in the Albertine Rift is an added advantage.
· Highly developed conceptual, analytical and innovative problem-solving ability;
· Extensive theoretical background and practical experience in organization development, civil society engagement, communication, lobbying and advocacy
· Proven interpersonal skills and ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with people in a multi-cultural, multi-interest, multiethnic environment;
· Excellent oral and written communications skills;
· Must be detail-oriented and have the ability to multi-task under limited supervision;
Working Relationships
Internal: Interacts and closely works with the Energy and Climate Coordinator, and other relevant project teams and administrative support staff in all Uganda Country Office offices. External: Interacts with various District Local Governments, private sector, the Ministries of Energy and Mineral Development (in particular the Petroleum Exploration and Production Department), Ministry of Water and Environment, Ministry of Tourism, Trade and Industry and related departments and agencies among others; Civil Society Institutions (both national and local government level) working on oil and gas issues, including national and regional networks;
