About WFP:
The World Food Programme (WFP) is the United Nations frontline agency against world hunger. It is the largest and longest serving humanitarian agency in Uganda. Currently WFP focuses on three priority areas namely, Emergency Humanitarian Action (EHA); Food & Nutrition Security (FNS); and Purchase for Progress (P4P)/Agriculture & Market Support (AMS). WFP has operations in various parts of the Country. WFP cherishes and takes pride in its human resources; therefore we seek to recruit competent persons for the positions listed below:
Job Purpose: Under the direct supervision of the Head of Assessments, Monitoring & Evaluation (AME), the incumbent will be responsible for periodic food security and nutrition assessments; regular food security, nutrition and market monitoring and analyses; designing and conducting baseline surveys as well as impact evaluations and will be required to undertake the following:
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
·         Support the AME unit in reviewing, harmonizing and standardizing the existing approaches to vulnerability analysis, early warning, food security and nutrition assessment and food aid targeting, including objectives, methodology, and geographic coverage and data collection methods;
·         Liaise with national and international organizations with respect to periodic data acquisition, establishing sound relationship with different agencies for effective collaboration and common understanding of food security and nutrition analysis;
·         Compile food security survey reports and results and actively participate in the development of a WFP food security and nutrition database for Uganda and ensure their sustainability, continuing accuracy and accessibility to users within WFP Uganda;
·         Lead as well as actively participate in regular and ad hoc food security and nutrition assessments, surveys and studies, including field work, data analysis and report preparation and dissemination;
·         Conduct causal analysis of food security, including linkages between food insecurity and malnutrition;
·         Undertake food security and vulnerability analysis that will enhance WFP programme decision making and drawing lessons;
·         Contribute to the development and implementation of an effective sentinel site monitoring system for food security and nutrition indicators that will supplement information from other sources;
·         Assist in the development of data collection instruments (e.g., questionnaires) to be used by field staff and counterparts to obtain monthly updates on relevant food security and nutrition indicators;
·         Assist in development of a training schedule and conduct training for staff and other relevant colleagues in food security assessment, analysis and reporting;
·         Act as a resource person for designing and implementing periodic rapid vulnerability and food needs assessments and the periodic food security and nutrition assessments;
·         Actively participate in and contribute to technical discussions on food security, and livelihood, nutrition and related forums;
·         Closely work with other members of the AME Unit in order to complement each other and learn from one another;
·         Perform additional tasks assigned by the Head of the AME Unit;
Qualifications, Skills & Experience:
·         University degree, in agricultural economics, food security or a closely related field from a recognized institution;
·         At least 5 years of relevant working experience in food security and vulnerability analysis or a closely related field from a reputable organisation;
·         Proficiency in both oral and written English is essential;
·         Strong computer skills and knowledge and experience in using quantitative analysis techniques, interpretation and software, including SPSS;
·         Availability and willingness to travel as required to different areas of Uganda.
