Job Summary: The Database Administrator will oversee the performance, integrity and security of a database in line with the established corporate standards and policies
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Offer technical support on the corporate database availability
- The DBA will establish database user needs and monitor database user access and security;
- The job holder will monitor database performance and manage parameters to provide fast query responses to front-end users;
- The DBA will install and test new versions of the Database Management Systems on the URA systems.
- Maintain corporate data standards, including adherence to the established corporate data standards manual
- Document database changes, including data standards, procedures and definitions for the data dictionary (metadata);
- Control access permissions and privileges;
- Develop, manage and test the backup and recovery plans
- Ensure that storage, archiving, back-up and recovery procedures are functioning correctly;
- Participate in the design and execution of the corporate database capacity planning;
- Work closely with other IT stakeholders in resolving incidents affecting corporate services availability.
- Communicate regularly with other IT stakeholders and operational staff to ensure database integrity and security;
- Commission and install new applications and customizing existing applications in order to make them fit for purpose.
- Participate in the design and implementation of the service availability and continuity strategies
- Evaluate and recommend new database technologies
- Perform any other IT tasks as assigned by supervisors.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The DBA must possess a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, software engineering, Statistics (computer option)
- Additional professional Certifications that are relevant to Database administrators such as Microsoft Certified Database Administrator (MCDBA), Oracle Certified Database Administrator (OCA) equivalent will be an added advantage
- The candidate should possess a year’s experience in a database administration role in a dynamic organization with more than a hundred employees
- Experience in database management systems preferably Oracle and SQL, design, performance tuning, database security, database backup and recovery
