HAU:
Hospice Africa Uganda (HAU)
(national organization) has been working in Uganda since 1993 and has promoted
modern methods of pain and symptom control as well as “whole-person” (holistic)
care for patients living with cancer and HIV/AIDS. HAU strives to uphold
excellent clinical standards and provide quality education courses and advocacy
activities to promote spread of palliative care throughout Uganda and Africa.
Hospice Africa Uganda has a head office in Kampala, site offices in Mbarara and
Hoima Districts.
Job
Summary:  The Palliative Care Nurse will offer comprehensive
and integrated care for terminally ill cancer/or AIDS patients and their
families at Hospice, in Hospital and the community while supporting onsite
training for all health professionals and non professionals across the
continuum in palliative care knowledge and skills.
Key
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Give
    palliative Care nursing services to patients and their family members;
  • Supports
    placement and training programs;
  • Disseminates
    knowledge regarding appropriate care of the terminally ill to other health
    professionals, students, volunteers and patients’ family members;
  • Assists
    in building a reservoir of resource persons, materials and audiovisual
    aids for training in Palliative care;
  • Coordinates
    bereavement activities;
  • Provides
    counseling to the patient, family and other careers;
  • Ensures
    patients having an improved quality of life
Qualifications,
Skills and Experience:
  • The
    applicant should hold a Diploma in Nursing with training in palliative
    medicine, and Certificate in end of life care.
  • Three
    (3) years experience in Nursing practice.
  • Experience
    and knowledge on Palliative Care practice and education will be an added
    advantage.
