HAU:
(national organization) has been working in Uganda since 1993 and has promoted
modern methods of pain and symptom control as well as “whole-person” (holistic)
care for patients living with cancer and HIV/AIDS. HAU strives to uphold
excellent clinical standards and provide quality education courses and advocacy
activities to promote spread of palliative care throughout Uganda and Africa.
Hospice Africa Uganda has a head office in Kampala, site offices in Mbarara and
Hoima Districts.
Summary: The Quality
Assurance & Control Chemist/ Officer will offer quality assurance and
quality control for the Pharmacy and Morphine Production Unit to ensure
quality, safe oral morphine products and adherence to good manufacturing, and
pharmaceutical practices
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Ensures
adherence to good manufacturing and pharmaceutical practices; good quality
of all supplies and materials to the MPU; - Ensure
proper documentation as per manufacturing standards; - Advise
on and ensure continuous quality improvement in the morphine production unit,
pharmacy and dispensing areas/ functions; - Ensures
necessary laboratory tests are done in accordance with procedure and
protocol; - Monitoring
and evaluation, and audits for the MPU; with the Pharmacist liaise with
the National Drug Authority for external inspections; - Act
as a lead on corrective and preventative interventions to reach required
local and international standards; - Authenticate
the morphine production process; provide leadership of efforts to extend
the shelf life of oral liquid morphine.
Skills and Experience:
- The
Pharmacist/ Chemist or Biochemist should possess qualifications in quality
assurance and quality control, and in managing/ participating/ supervising
small scale pharmaceutical manufacture. - Preferable
experience small scale pharmaceutical manufacture. - Experience
with morphine, training in Good Manufacturing Practices and HSP will be an
added advantage.
