Salary Scale R3: Entry point negotiable [US$ 25,872 – 27,424) Per Annum
(p. a), and other benefits as per the Organization’s Service regulations.]



Job Summary: The Chief Research Officer (CRO) will act as a
principal assistant to the Director with responsibility for the overall
initiation, planning, organization and direction of all approved scientific
research relevant to the DLCO-EA regional activities. Specific areas of
responsibility are outlined below; however, he/she may be required to perform
other duties which may be delegated to him/her by the Director.



Key Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Plans, directs and supervises all
    scientific research activities undertaken by the Organization and ensures
    the issuance of technical reports.
  • Liaises with institutions/bodies within
    and outside the region in matters pertaining to DLCOEA research
    activities.
  • Coordinates with Director to conduct
    special operational activities for research purposes.
  • Coordinates preparation of working papers
    for Technical Committee meetings and acts as Technical Secretary for such
    meetings.
  • Plans and coordinates training programmes
    with the Divisions of Administration and Finance to ensure that all
    research personnel are proficient in their assigned duties.
  • Develops and improves pest management
    techniques for the mandated migrant pests (Locusts, army worms, quelea
    birds and tsetse flies).



Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
  • The applicant should hold a PhD in
    Entomology from a recognized University with at least 5 years
    post-qualification experience, OR a Masters Degree in Entomology from an
    accredited University, with at least 10 years post qualification
    experience in leading or directing research programmes or projects in the
    field of Plant Protection.
  • Ability to work in harmony with people of
    different national and cultural backgrounds is highly desirable.
    Computer literacy skills and proficiency in data collection analysis and
    report writing.
