EngenderHealth Uganda received an
award (cooperative agreement) by USAID for a Fistula Care plus project whose
objective is to strengthen health system capacity for fistula prevention,
detection, treatment and reintegration. The project will strengthen
environments to enable for fistula prevention and treatment, increase community
awareness and support for women and girls with fistula, reduce barriers to
accessing prevention, detection, and care, and improve the evidence base for
approaches to improve fistula care in the districts of Hoima, Masaka, Kalungu
and Kasese.

Job Summary: The Accounts Assistant will primarily be
responsible for data capturing of finance transactions, assist with the
preparation of the financial reports, maintaining the office accounting filling
system, processing payment vouchers including travel advances for the staff.

Responsibilities:
Responsibilities:
- Maintain
and update a proper filling system to track all transactions and vouchers. - Periodically
review the completeness of the petty cash requests and vouchers before
review by the Accountant and subsequent approval by the Finance and
Operations Manager (FOM) - Reconciling
all supplier statements to invoices and purchase orders before preparing
the payment request voucher. - Review
payment requests received from procurement and other staff for
completeness before processing. - Handle
cheque and electronic payment for review and approval by the Accountant
and Finance and Operations manager. - Perform
data capturing into the QuickBooks cashbook and posting journals as
assigned. - Process
cheque and electronic payment for review and approval by the Accountant
and Finance and Operations manager. - Prepare
the Bank reconciliations for review by the Accountant. - Offer
support banking roles as a bank agent including collecting bank
statements, and banking funds / withdrawals - Review
the staff Travel expense reports (TER) for completeness and correct
supporting documentation. After approval of TER, posting the TER journals
into the QuickBooks ledger - Assist
with the preparation and presentation of accounting documents as requested
by both internal and external audit teams.
- Managing
and updating the fixed assets register data on a monthly basis. - Maintenance
of records of equipment borrowed by staff for field activities and ensure
the return and condition before storage. - Responsible
for communication contacts with UTL suppliers, Telephone & Internet
and perform data storage duties - Perform
any other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the accountant
Qualifications, Skills &
Experience:
Experience:
- The
suitable candidate should ideally hold a Bachelor’s degree in business
administration, business computing or a related field from a recognized
institution - At least
two years’ accounting working experience. - Practical
Computer literacy skills i.e. knowledge with excellent use of accounting
packages/programs including Excel, Word and QuickBooks would be an
advantage. - Excellent
interpersonal skills and people management skills - Fluent in
English (spoken & written), self-motivated and able to work under
minimum supervision
