About RTI:
RTI International is recruiting for the USAID Uganda School Health and Reading Program, a five-year,
USAID program that aims to improve early grade reading outcomes for children in
primary grades and develop sustainable health education systems that support
national HIV/AIDS prevention efforts.
Job Summary: The Literacy Coordinator
will technically support the Literacy Advisor to coordinate and harmonize the
materials development and the teacher training and supervision arms of the
program. S/he will support the planning and oversight of materials development,
production and distribution activities.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • Coordinate
    the production of materials through printing to delivery.
  • Work with
    book charities to ensure books are appropriately selected and distributed
    to target schools.
  • Document
    best practices, success stories and input in strengthening relevant
    education policies and publishing guidelines.
  • Supervise
    the planning of the development, editing, production and distribution of
    the program’s reading instructional materials.
  • Perform
    any other duties as assigned by the Deputy Chief of Party.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
  • The
    Literacy Coordinator must hold a good master’s degree
  • Three or
    more years’ experience in education, development studies, or related
    field; or Bachelor’s degree with six years relevant experience in the
    development sector
  • Prior
    working experience in teacher training, curriculum planning, development
    and design
  • Possess
    the ability to regularly and flexibly travel between districts and
    designated project Units.
  • Fluency
    in English and excellent writing skills and speaking fluency in at least
    one local language
  • The
    applicant must possess a high degree of motivation.
