About WHO: 
The World Health Organisation (WHO) is the directing and coordinating
authority for health within the United Nations system.  WHO is responsible for providing leadership
on global health matters, shaping the health research agenda, setting norms and
standards, articulating evidence-based policy options, providing technical
support to countries and monitoring and assessing health trends.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
The Public Information Assistant for the WHO Country Office (WCO)
will primarily be responsible for the following:
  • Prepare information for and maintains the
    WHO Country Office (WCO) websites
  • Prepare information and materials for
    social media such as Face Book, Twitter, My Space and others for
    promotional needs of the organization.
  • Act as a key liaison and coordinator with
    the media and assists in responding to their information needs in
    consultation with the supervisor.
  • Plans and coordinates implementation of
    activities to meet specific WCO needs and objectives in media
    communications and public information.
  • Write and edit public information
    materials including news releases, articles, photographs and
    newsletters/bulletins.
  • Offer support to report on WCO various
    events such as meetings, workshops, commemorative days as appropriate.
  • Support in the need assessments, planning
    and formulating the office’s communication policies, strategies, and
    responses.
  • Support the IT Officer to troubleshoot
    basic problems in the office computer system
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the
    WHO Representative.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
  • The Public Information Assistant for the
    World Health Organisation (WHO) 
    must ideally possess a 
    bachelor’s degree in Mass Communication, journalism, public
    relations or a related field from a recognized University
  • Additional professional certificate in
    information technology
  • Additional qualifications in a health
    related field will be an added advantage
  • The suitable candidate must possess three
    or more years; relevant working experience in health reporting, health
    communication, public health or health promotion.
  • Demonstrated team work, excellent
    communication & writing skills
  • Proven ability to understand and interpret
    health figures, statistics and concepts
  • Demonstrated ability to solve basic
    computer problems
  • Demonstrated skills in various computer
    packages
Language Proficiency: Thorough knowledge of the English
Language. Working knowledge of French would be added advantage.
