Uganda Insurers Association (UIA) was founded in 1965 by Insurance
companies in Uganda to meet the challenges of an emerging competitive and
continuously growing Insurance industry with the overall objective to promote
the development and expansion of sound insurance and reinsurance activities in
Uganda. In pursuit of our overall objective, we use lobbying and advocacy,
publicity and sensitization, research and information dissemination, training
and product development to ensure the smooth operation and promotion of this
industry. By law- the Insurance Act 213- all licensed Insurance and Reinsurance
companies in Uganda are required to be members of this Association

Job Summary: The Research & Publications Officer will manly
build an information database, on the performance of the insurance sector
(including within the context of the overall economic environment, extending to
comparatives at the regional and global level) for information of members and
policy discussions.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Prepare timely monthly, quarterly and
annual financial reports. - Responsible for accounting, book keeping,
and effect daily transactions as well as prepare all transaction
documentation. - Remit applicable tax payments including
PAYE and NSSF. - Monitor all the Association’s expenditures
against approved budget. - Monitor the Association’s Local income and
projections and guide on expenditure. - Monitoring stock levels for Motor Third
Party Stationery and tracking sales and timely requisition and follow up
of returns. - Effect routine audit and support
supervision to ensure compliance with the Association’s financial
management procedures. - The Accountant will oversee the petty cash
and imprest system. - Prepare monthly cash and bank
reconciliations including petty cash expenditure reports, sales reports
and office consumables status reports on a monthly basis. - Maintain a fixed asset register and ensure
proper custody. - Purchase, store, and Manage office
supplies and maintain records. - Rigorously interact with other departments
and business units to resolve financial related issues. - Recommend accounting-related process
improvements. - Manage the proper administration and the
sale of Motor Third Party stickers to the Association’s member companies. - Design, document, implement and monitor
the appropriate internal controls to deliver sound financial management. - Provide to management key insights on the
financial position of Uganda Insurers Association (UIA). - Perform any other duties as may be
assigned by the Chief Executive Officer.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The applicant should preferably hold a
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Commerce, or Business Administration. - Additional full/Part two of ACCA
professional qualification is required. CPA qualification will also be
considered. - At least five years’ experience in a
similar institution in terms of size or nature of operations. - Computer literacy skills i.e. Ability to
use one of the common computerized accounting packages (including Tally
and Excel) and to use spreadsheets for financial modelling. - Person of high integrity, good analytical
and interpersonal skills. - Highly self driven and highly innovative
with ability to work with minimum supervision.
